Orwellian Bahamas

EDITOR, The Tribune.

My comment has to bring to the public’s attention that predictions written in George Orwell’s book 1984 are quickly becoming a reality in The Bahamas.

Nationally, we seem to be totally out of tune with simple reality of what is going on around the  so-called 700 islands of The Bahamas.

Why can’t Ministers stand and take the fullest responsibility of their sworn office?

Why is government so frightened of the truth and fights every second with all their collective Cabinet breath that there will not be a Freedom of Information Act such a position which is so opposite to anything the PLP ever stood for?

Do we really need a national dress? Do we need a National Dance? Do we need a national-anything if simply the choice will as usual only concern the period of history when the ethnic majority was in rule?

Take Dress? Do we consider the original inhabitants of these islands or do we incredibly disregard of that heritage for our history from mother soil Africa?

Take Dance or Music? The same is or should be a considerable concern as facts speak for themselves – if the slave traders, starting with the African slave traders selling their fellow Africans to the European traders would be inhabitants of these Commonwealth of The Bahamas islands if their forefathers did not bring them here as cruel and vile as any good christian people would agree, but bless Minister Daniel Johnson he pronounces yesterday on Guardian radio of his intent to do the above.
