THE third of three men charged in connection with the robbery of Deputy Prime Minister Philip “Brave” Davis appeared in the Supreme Court seeking bail yesterday.
Jeffrey King’s appearance before Justice Vera Watkins came nearly six weeks after the judge denied bail to 25-year-old co-accused Tyrone Knowles ahead of trial on three armed robbery charges in connection with the December 9, 2013 raid at Mr Davis’ home. Mr Davis was acting prime minister at the time of the robbery.
Prosecutor Linda Evans, in yesterday’s bail hearing before Justice Watkins, raised concern of possible witness tampering by the applicant based on information contained in King’s own affidavit of February 5 that was filed for the bail application.
King’s lawyer, Geoffrey Farquharson, took exception to the implied accusations that he said could be inferred from the Crown’s submission.
Justice Watkins reserved her decision to May 19.
King, Knowles and 21-year-old Marc McCartney are scheduled to stand trial on May 2, 2016, if the matter does not begin on July 6, 2015.
They are accused of robbing Mr Davis of jewellery worth $93,000, a jewellery box worth $200, Baraka gold jewellery worth $700, an opal top wallet worth $450, a Royal Bank credit card and a driver’s licence worth $15.
The three are further accused of robbing Mr Davis’ wife, Ann Marie Davis, of $2,953, and Wilberforce Seymour of $10.
In March, Knowles filed for bail partly on the grounds that co-accused McCartney was given $9,500 bail ahead of trial by Justice Watkins in December.
However, the judge ruled that denying the 25-year-old a bond was “necessary to ensure his appearance at trial”, among other reasons.

Murderers go free on bail, but rob a political tief and you get the book thrown at you.
