AN 82-year-old woman is fighting for her life in hospital after she was stabbed multiple times with a screwdriver during a home invasion in Harbour Island early on Monday morning.
According to police, the elderly woman was at her home when a man stormed in and demanded cash.
The suspect then stabbed the woman multiple times before fleeing the area on foot. She was taken to a local clinic but was later airlifted to the Princess Margaret Hospital in New Providence, where she is in critical condition.
The Tribune understands that a portion of the screwdriver broke off into the woman’s chest and she was severely beaten. According to a source, the suspect also reportedly cut the phone lines and removed the security footage before ransacking the apartment and fleeing the scene.
No one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.
Police are on the hunt for two men who opened fire on a group of men on Monday around 8pm on Shady Tree Street.
Police said a group of men were standing in front of a home when two men armed with handguns approached and shot them before speeding off.
Two men were taken into hospital where they are in serious but stable condition.
Investigations into both incidents continue.
