Where is Bernadette Christie?

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Hurricane Joaquin caused devastation across the southern islands of the Bahamas. Bahamians have been very generous. Businesses, wealthy people, churches, and nearly every sector of our society have given millions. I hope our generosity continues.

In a lot of big countries when tragedies such as these take place, the spouse of the leader is seen in the forefront of the relief effort helping to rally the charitable spirit in the country.

She joins forces with aid agencies such as the Red Cross to boost donations.

The wife of a prime minister or president is very connected. She can call people at the highest levels of business. If they were going to give $50,000, her persuasiveness and position would likely make an owner or CEO add $25,000 more.

I am a regular reader of The Tribune, The Punch and The Nassau Guardian. I have not seen one story about Bernadette Christie, wife of Prime Minister Perry Christie, being involved in charitable activity to raise money or items for the people hurting from Hurricane Joaquin.

Now in fairness to the prime minister’s wife, maybe she has helped quietly. Or maybe she has been away. We know that she spends a lot of time in the United States with their daughter. But at these times, if she has given quietly, this is when her public profile is needed. It would help tremendously if someone like her stepped forward.

It seems strange that we have not seen the wife of the prime minister during this tragedy. Maybe there is a simple answer for this that we, the regular people, are just not aware of.

I think she handed in her Bahamian passport when her husband took office, and is now American. Can't blame her for that! She knows this man better than anyone and she can't even stand living here and putting up with this crap!

Also. I'm sure she signs on hubby's Chinese bank account, so she flush with cash and living in a first world country.

I wonder if she looking for a 'side blanket'?

I think Bernadette is looking after Adam and banking the pool and waterway skimmings ! Apparently she told U No Who that she was looking for a real man and he asked he to find one for him too.

Come on my people, Mrs. Christie is a private citizen whose husband happens to be the Prime Minister. Unlike many of the country's you reference the Bahamas does very little for the spouse of the Prime Minister e.g. their home belongs to them not the country. She is entitled to give whatever effort she decides on just as each of us have a similar choice. The larger question is where are you (Bahamian Public) if the majority gave a little our brothers and sisters needs would be met. Imagine if Mrs. Christie convinced the Chinese to give or some other corporate citizen next you'll will be saying she take half the money or now that she got the donation the government will be obligated to return the favor. Stop wasting time and energy on casting flame and finding fault get up off your hinds and do something to make a difference

Sorry, but if you look back on Bahamian history the wives of PMs and Govenor-Generals, even before 1973, were always involved in fundraising for various causes even if it was just helping to sell raffle tickets. It would be good to see her home visiting the devastated/recovering communities, even if it is just another photo opportunity. That is what the spouse of a Prime Minister or Governor General is expected to do: "show dey face".

Bernadette is with Maynard-Gibson in Beijing......they are both being measured for the customized Chinese costumes they plan on wearing as parade participants during the next Carnival. They were most unhappy that the costumes they wore during the last Carnival parade made their thighs look terribly big so they are determined that does not happen again!
