THE Democratic National Alliance is expected to announce another five candidates next week, according to party leader Branville McCartney.
Official candidates for Centreville, Garden Hills, Golden Isles, Fox Hill and South Andros are expected to be unveiled at the party’s new East Street South headquarters next Wednesday.
Mr McCartney made the announcement yesterday as he castigated both the governing Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) and the Free National Movement (FNM) for their “unrelenting back and forth” over the alleged murder-for-hire plot involving Canadian fashion designer Peter Nygard.
“With regards to the Official Opposition and the governing party, they are an embarrassment to this country; a complete embarrassment in terms of what has transpired in particular, over the last two weeks,” he said.
“They are two sides of the same coin, Peter doesn’t seem to be any better than Paul and it’s time that we change this whole regime. It’s time we put a new government in there – one that is going to work for the people. One that would do everything necessary to bring this country back to prominence.”
Mr McCartney said he remains confident in the DNA’s candidates for the next general election. He also insisted that the calibre of candidates being offered by the party could and would outperform any sitting member of Parliament if elected.
He said his party has remained on task in recent months, opting to draft and construct the necessary plans needed to move the Bahamas progressively forward.
“Just like we did with the first set of candidates that came out, we worked to ensure that these persons are fit, proper and capable of running the country once elected. So certainly, we want the Bahamian people, when we all sit down and they look at the candidates coming from the DNA, they would feel very comfortable in saying that they can trust us and be willing to put the country and the governance of the country in their our hands,” added Mr McCartney.
In late February the party introduced its first four official candidates to contest the 2017 general election.
Emily Williams was ratified for Marathon, Bushceme Armbrister, a businessman and pilot, was ratified for the Carmichael constituency, Brenda Harris was ratified for Bain and Grants Town and Podestra Moore was ratified for the Elizabeth constituency.

Why don't all those FNM's who have had enough of Minnis leave to join the DNA on condition that Bran holds a convention whereby all positions are democratically elected?

That is what happened in 2012 ............. but your point is valid ............. it will make the DNA a serious contender, especially if he can syphon off a few sitting MPs
