A HOUSE fire early on Saturday has claimed the life of an elderly Exuma resident.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire in Williams Town after being alerted shortly after 6am.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the home fully engulfed in flames. After the fire was extinguished, they discovered human remains believed to be that of an elderly man burned beyond recognition.

Officers from the Central Detective Unit assisted by officers from the Fire Services and officers in Exuma are investigating.
