A MAJOR drug seizure of some $4.5m worth of cocaine was made at the Freeport Container Port yesterday, police said.
Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Emrick Seymour said Bahamian and US authorities made the discovery after searching a 20-ft container that arrived from South America.
He said that police, the Department of Customs and US Drug Enforcement Agency officials conducted a search around noon and found five duffel bags containing 161 kilos of cocaine.
The container was bound for Canada, police said. No arrest was made.
ACP Seymour said the seizure is a significant one because officials were able to confiscate such a large shipment of illegal drugs. “We are extremely pleased with that find and the co-operation we have with the various law enforcement agencies,” he said.
