Taking training seriously at judo programme

CURRENTLY over 40 members are in the judo training programme.

The members train at the Holy Family Catholic Church activity centre after school until about 5:30pm and then partake in a hot meal in a family-like setting.

The centre has 4,000 square feet of training space, classrooms and gym.

The parish hall is used for additional training and meals.

“The program is free to students and we are actively recruiting girls in particular. The British Judo Federation has released their cadet strategy and they are calling for kids that know no fear and can invoke fear,” said D’Arcy Rahming, president of the BJF.

“They are taking the Commonwealth Youth Games very seriously. We must be as committed and intense.”

There is a social component to the the training process.

“We have found that to get our athletes to practice consistently they need to be fed and sometimes given a ride home,” Rahming said.

“We know that once societal impediments are removed we will achieve success.

“Send us your sons and daughters and we will return to you a disciplined citizen capable of being a national hero.”

The Bahamas judo federation is also currently seeking donations of food and judo uniforms.
