Garbage piles up on Mackey Street

ANOTHER example of an eyesore of overflowing and rotting rubbish - this time by the side of a route into downtown Nassau much used by tourists - has been reported to The Tribune this week, raising several concerns.

Near the foot of the old Paradise Island Bridge, on the corner of Mackey Street and Ernest Street opposite The New Pond Liquor Store, a full Bahamas Waste dumpster is surrounded by discarded cans, plastic rubbish sacks, bottles and takeaway food containers strewn around the parking lot.

A concerned resident pointed out that visitors to Atlantis and thousands of residents and workers on Paradise Island, have to pass the unedifying spectacle on the way to downtown, the airport or sightseeing.

“Clearly, viewing a mini-landfill complete with mounds of rotting garbage, flies, viruses, possessing a unique tropical aroma, is not what most of us had in mind,” the resident said. “As Bahamians, can we not come together and have some pride in our Bahamaland? What about having some respect for our valued tourists and each other? It would be a most welcome change if those who actually used the dumpster took responsibility for ensuring that it was emptied on a regular basis.”

The Tribune is highlighting cases of uncollected rubbish piling up around New Providence. If you have any to report, send photographs to newsroom@tribunemedia.net and help clean up Nassau.

This is what happens when crony's who know nothing about a business get given a contract. A prime example of the PLP in action!

I mean how can Bahamians first work anyway. Our country's financial and tourism industries are based on servicing foreigners for payment. Bahamians first idea is incongruous with the way we make our living.

So the only reason this is making news is because it's near PI and the tourists!? Always fretting about tourists while others live in filth. Disgusting mentality!

Have some decency Bahamian people, and stop littering and dumping your filth ANYWHERE on the island. Geez!
