Two men held over Devince Smith murder

POLICE have two men in custody in connection with the murder of Devince Smith who was found dead in his home in an apartment complex on St Alban’s Drive in December.

Shortly after 8pm on Monday, a 25–year-old man wanted in connection with Smith’s murder turned himself into officers of the Selective Enforcement Team at the Central Detective Unit. Officers of the Selective Enforcement Team also arrested a 61–year-old man in connection with this murder shortly after 1am on Tuesday.

Smith’s partially decomposed body was found shortly after 2.30pm on December 21. Last month, Assistant Commissioner of Police Stephen Dean confirmed that Smith, 43, was stabbed multiple times and beaten by his attacker. ACP Dean said it was one of the “worst crime scenes” he had ever seen.

At the crime scene Chief Superintendent Paul Rolle, officer-in-charge of the Central Detective Unit, said police believe the victim was dead for “quite some time” before the body was discovered. Police were alerted to the scene after relatives, who had not heard from the victim, went to his home and found him dead in the living room.

Smith was a sports coach and local banker. He is also a former president of the New Providence Volleyball Association.
