AN AMERICAN woman was allegedly caught with suspected marijuana brownies at the Treasure Cay Airport in Abaco over the weekend, police reported.

Inspector Terecita Pinder said that around 3pm on Saturday, police arrested a 35-year-old female who was found in possession of the illegal brownies.

Drug arrests were also made in Grand Bahama over the weekend.

According to reports, shortly before 4pm on Saturday, officers went to an area on Frobisher Circle, Freeport, where they discovered a black plastic bag containing a quantity of suspected marijunana near a garbage container.

Around 6pm, officers of Operation Turf Sweep searched two vehicles with men from Abaco and New Providence who were suspected of human smuggling.

On further investigation, officers went to an apartment on Ellis Lightfoot Drive, where they arrested two male Haitian immigrants.

Yesterday, officers of Operation Turf Sweep executed a search warrant at a residence on Abaco Drive, where they discovered five pounds of suspected cocaine. A male occupant was arrested and taken into police custody.

Acting on information while at the Freeport Harbour, officers also arrested an American female, who was found with two and a half pounds of suspected cocaine strapped to her body with an estimated street value of$25,000. She is expected to be arraigned before the Magistrates Court this week.

Around 5pm yesterday, officers from the Eleuthera Division executed a search warrant on a home in Palmetto Point, where they uncovered a quantity of marijuana.

An adult male and an adult female were taken into custody in connection with the discovery.

Talking about Priorities. I think someone should arrest the politicians and someone to rid us of the national security risk "Nygard" rather than worrying about food.

Why do we continue to lock up people for their personal private use of marijuana???????? Was this lady going to sell these brownies on her return to the USA??? ..... we understand the law charges a person for possession with the intent to supply, but is a few ounces of weed in brownies worth the while of the police/court ?????????

that lady was bringing them down here cus the weed you get locally ain't that good and definetly ain't good enough to make brownies that will have any effect. She was probably bringing them down here to help a few of her bahamian friends combat the daily stress our PLP ridden lives are full of!

Unbelieveable......

Nygard bribing the leaders of our governing party, financing race-hate marches in the centre of our capital during arguably our largest cultural festival, openly discussing "whacking" people with known gangsters.........and one of our tourists is going to be dragged before the courts because.......wait for it.......she had a a couple of "hash" brownies!!

Well motor bike.....

Comrades if you haven't eaten them brownies before, from personal observation I'd recommend you start with eating one and see your reaction. It takes while kick in, so don't make same mistake as my friend did, by thinking cause you ain't feeling a thing right away to be munching on few them laced brownies over short period, or you could end up experiencing a temporary loss ya mobility.

This war against marijuana is getting ridiculous now. How many persons are in HMP for drugs? Probably more than half of the inmates. Legalize it and tax it and for God's sake PLEASE stop arresting persons for a couple of joints or some damn brownies. I wonder how many of the backlogged cases are based on drug charges...

Comrade if I did partake in the baking brownies I would have to plead, it was for medicinal purpose.
I challenge any politician, citizen, judge or informed medical professional, who wants to be jailing recreational marijuana users to point me in the direction, where there is any credible evidence why people shouldn't be allowed to prime their creative juices in a relaxed mood? We sure allow it with the most dangerous of all drugs, alcohol. l In fact the government taxes it.
How many violent rapes and other crimes - including murders are being committed daily by alcohol abusers?
There exists zero credible evidence that marijuana uses commit violent crimes. I wish we could say the same for the thousands being over-medicated daily with doctor prescribed prescription drugs.
Has there ever been a medical professional who was charged and imprisoned for operating an illegal prescription 'pill mill?' The same question can be asked of pharmacies?

Agreed! But unfortunately, we live in a country where things are not looked at rationally. Everything is done for political reasons. The church opposes it, so the government opposes it, because church=votes.

I am still confused why is it that the PLP is always trying to get the blessing from the Church when it suits them (e.g. gender referendum) ............ but shits on the Church when it doesn't (e.g.numbers poll) ...... HYPOCRITES
