A MAN wanted by police for a series of armed robberies was shot in the leg during an “altercation” with officers yesterday morning.
The shooting happened around 8am on West Street.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Stephen Dean said police received information that the suspect was spotted off Market Street brandishing a handgun.
“We got a call that he was spotted walking down the street. Officers on patrol saw him and the suspect fled when he saw the police,” ACP Dean said.
“After a short foot chase police were able to capture him. A short struggle
ensued and the suspect was shot in the right leg. Police retrieved a .38 revolver from his waist with four live rounds of ammunition. The suspect was wanted by police in connection with a number of house break-ins.”
Investigations continue.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.
