Search continues for missing man in Nassau Harbour after boat collision

A MAJOR search for a missing man following a boating accident in Nassau Harbour on Saturday night is continuing on Sunday, police are reporting.

Christopher Turnquest, 25, is missing feared drowned after the 13 foot skiff he was in with another man capsized following a collision with a Royal Bahamas Defence Force patrol vessel around 8pm on Saturday just east of Potter's Cay Dock.

The other person in the skiff was immediately recovered from the water by the Defence Force and was unharmed.

The search for Mr Turnquest involves Defence Force vessels and divers, shoreline search teams and the Police Force Marine Unit.

None of the crew members of the Defence Force vessel, based at the East Bay Street harbour patrol facility, suffered injury.

Clearly proper Seamanship is lacking today given the multiple incidents of negligence involving our Defence Force and the fact that they are provided with multi-million Vessels of varying description is simply unconscionable, much less their abysmal ability to maintain such valuable pieces of equipment. All very sad, as instead of embarrasment, this was once an aspect of Bahamian Independence that all Bahamians could be proud of.
