Police officer in hospital after being shot as he arrived home

A POLICE officer is recovering in hospital after he was shot by two armed men as he arrived at his home off East Street shortly after 11pm on Monday.

According to police, the officer had just pulled into the driveway of his Olde Corner home when two men with handguns approached and shot him. The officer returned fire and shot one of the suspects.

However, the other suspect fled the area on the foot.

The officer and suspect were taken to hospital by ambulance where they are both listed in stable condition. The suspect is under heavy police guard.

Thank God he was armed and able to return fire or they would have likely finished him off.
