Bahamian cargo airline launches

A newly-formed Bahamian cargo airline has obtained US regulatory approval to provide services to this nation from south Florida.

Junkanoo Air is providing services between the US, the Bahamas and surrounding countries such as Turks and Caicos, Haiti and Cuba.

Captain Christopher King, its president and an airline pilot for more than 10 years, launched Junkanoo Air tofillwhat he perceived as a gap in the cargo/logistics market. C

“We’re a Bahamian company, so we know the specific needs of other Bahamian companies,” he said. “To borrow a line from our national flag carrier, Bahamasair: ‘We don’t just fly here. We live here’,” Captain King said.

“Bahamian businesses are poised to expand, with the ability to have supplies flown to the Bahamas within hours as opposed to taking days with boats. Interisland commerce can take off now.”

Junkanoo Air said it has developed specific shipping and logistical solutions for:

  • Freight forwarders

  • Pharmacies (transporting time-sensitive equipment/medication)

  • Hospitals, clinics and medical labs (test results, equipment transport)

  • Cargo transport

  • Dangerous goods transportation

  • Government agencies

  • Passenger airlines

  • Human remains

  • Perishable goods

“One of our driving goals is to make air cargo transport more affordable and accessible for businesses in the Bahamas,” said Captain King. “Our multi-aircraft fleet allows us to be dependable and reliable for the companies who need it most.”
