MINISTER for Grand Bahama Dr Michael Darville said Grand Bahama is on its way to becoming grand again through the initiation of several major government projects here on the island.
He noted that Prime Minister Perry Christie created his ministry specifically for Grand Bahama to ensure that residents, especially those living in the outlying settlements, receive maximum benefits from government initiatives.
“I had opportunity to travel from to east to west, and talk with many residents and listen to their concerns…and
what they felt was necessary to make Grand Bahama grand again,” he said.
Dr Darville said the government is bringing long-term solutions to age-old problems by constructing a new fire station; the Fishing Hole Road Bridge, a sea wall at Smith’s Point; and a new junior high school in West Grand Bahama.
“The signing and groundbreaking of the West Grand Bahama Junior High School is another example of the government’s promise to doubling its investment in education,” he said.
There are also plans for a new government administrative complex in Eight Mile Rock at the former Friendship Shopping Centre, where preparation work is now underway.
Other initiatives include the establishment of duty-free concessions in east and west Grand Bahama, as well as the provision of potable water in those areas.
Dr Darville also noted that government is renovating and modernising the West End and Eight Mile Rock Clinics.

I wish they would stop junking up every single beach they put their hands on. Nature doesn't need much help from you. Prune a tree, trim the grass, pick up trash and leave it at that, all this clapboard foolishness is now cluttering Junkanoo beach the site that used to be a nice beachfront

The fire station is smack in the middle of a residential area...Will they use a silent siren so as not to disturb the people's sleep?? Speeding along a major highway each time is also a scary scenario. There are three schools in the area as well. Oh well, that's progress.

What idiot would build at the fishing hole road and not elevate the buildings from the storm surge of a hurricane or even a strong cold front on a high tide.
More importantly, who in the GBPA would approve such a stupid design.
And then they built out of wood instead of concrete which could take a storm surge and be repaired at a cheaper cost.

Jackflash their not idiots, don't you see their geniuses at stealing, masters of robbery; it's all done on purpose. The cheaper they go on building materials, and the more damage done by storms as they jack up the prices on their phony paper work, the more of your taxed funds they can pocket. And while we're at it, the reason they interfered with the Baha Mar project was because if it when to court in the USA, they would have exposed every bribe, side pocket pay off, every shady deal made that the own had to put up with. And probably 95% of the PLP government would be in jail because of it; if they didn't interfere it would be open today. Now they think this project will save the country, 2000 jobs for 30,000 unemployed, who do they think their fooling; one drop in an empty bucket. That hotel will never make back it's loses in a million years, I can't wait till it opens, I want to see how many people go there after such long gated drama and mistrust.

Dr Michael Darville has always referred to this as the Fishing Hole Road Bridge. This project is actually a Causeway. There is a differences between the two. https://www.quora.com/How-is-a-causeway…. And it goes back to what jackfish said, It is a bad idea . If it was actually elevated ,such as the newly constructed bridge at the east it would have been better!

The "causeway" better go from EMR proper, past the Brewery and come down by Bellevue
otherwise it'll be a causeway from Lake to Lake!
If it blocks the flow of water at all EMR and Queens Highway is gonna get more flooding.
Meanwhile I understand Dr.Darville pharmacy selling furniture "VAT Free"
How does that work?
Government is spending money in Grand Bahama to snag the Port on the Cost covering aspect of the H.C.A. seeing as they couldn't prove their expenditures in years past!

To little and way to late Sir, are you a movie star, because you really know how to put on a good show. Grand Bahama and Freeport are a ghost town, what logical investor would invest in such a sham by such lying scam artist like yourself and your group? This was a project you should have completed a long time ago, an agenda promised to the people who voted for you; or did you forget so soon? But now since it's near election time you present it as something new, like a gift from God that will make everything perfect again. Do you really think the people are that illiterate, don't you see Sir that you are insulting your own intelligence by trying to insult theirs with your flat out lies? Things will hopefully get better when the tax paying citizens of the Bahamas removes you and your group from power ASAP.
