Department of Corrections officer arrested for drug possession

An officer from the Bahamas Department of Corrections is in custody after being arrested for possession of dangerous drugs on Friday at the prison.

According to police reports, shortly after 10:00pm, officers from the Bahamas Department of Corrections conducted a routine search of the officer and found a quantity of marijuana in his possession. The police were notified and the officer was handed over to officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit, who took him into custody.

The Corrections Officer is expected to appear in court early next week to be formally charged.

• Police have also seized over two pounds of cocaine on Cat Island.

According to reports, around 1.00pm on Thursday, officers on the island acting on information went to a beach, where they uncovered the drugs. The cocaine was later handed over to Drug Enforcement Unit Officers in New Providence for further investigation.

Yup, and these are the guys (and their inmates) who our government has selected to create our secure vehicle license plates and have access to our personal private data ...when will leader stop thinking from the back pocket and put Bahamians first - but that "is" a hard job.
