Drugs and money found on plane in Abaco

THREE men have been arrested after a large amount of dangerous drugs, cash and firearms were seized by law enforcement officers in Abaco on Friday afternoon.

Drug Enforcement Unit officers from New Providence along with US counterparts and officers of the Abaco Division went to the Sir Leonard Thompson International Airport in Marsh Harbour around 4pm where they searched a twin engine aircraft with three male passengers on board.

According to reports they discovered in the aircraft a large amount of suspected marijuana, cash and two .380 pistols hidden in a microwave. Three men were taken into police custody and flown to New Providence.

Would it be too much to ask who the suspects are, their natinality, where they were flying from, or where they were going?

Laziest newspaper reporters in the world work in Nassau.

No, they don't. The police can withhold names until charged, but there is no reason not to release nationalities, point of origin, destination, etc. Lazy reporting. Lazy.

With the tail number, as posted below, it took me 2 minutes to learn that the plane is registered to a corporation in Delaware and the flight originated from Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport. I guess the Trib reporter was just to busy playing with his cell phone to bother.

Most Bahamian operated aircraft that maintain a U.S. "N-" registration will be done up in a Delaware holding company...

Good question ......... where was their port of embarkation???????? .......... and what was their purpose of travel????? ....... Are microwaves cheaper to import from Haiti or Jamaica??????? ......... Who owns the plane??????

supposedly microwaves have a protective element that prevents xray machines from seeing through them. they have been used for years to smuggle drugs, money and guns in and out of this country. they are relatively affordable in nassau - no real need to import them, so that was probably a tip off.

Questions.

What percentage marijuana or other drugs do you all think the DEU stops from entering the country?

Do you believe that the DEU has made any dent in the distribution of marijuana or other drugs in the country?

ThisIsOurs says...

No. If they made a dent people would stop, the likelihood of getting caught would be too great. The fact that they're still trying says a whole lot more is getting through. And the guns are getting on the street somehow.
