GALLERIA Cinemas in Freeport will be reopening on Thursday after a temporary closure, The Tribune has learned.
A notice circulating on social media reportedly indicated that the establishment was permanently closing its Freeport (Galleria 5) location.
When The Tribune visited the establishment on Wednesday, a lock smith was on site repairing a lock to the glass entrance doors. This newspaper spoke with an employee who confirmed that the cinema had closed temporary but was reopening Thursday.
The economic climate on Grand Bahama is not well and a permanent closure would mean the loss of the island’s only movie theatre.
A local film producer had expressed sadness over the reported closure on social media.
“As someone fully immersed in the national film and television industry, I am deeply saddened to hear of the closure of RND Galleria Cinemas Freeport. This closure is particularly troubling as it was the island's only movie theatre, leaving local artists with no distribution platform to showcase their work,” the local producer wrote.
The Tribune attempted to reach management of Galleria Cinemas in Freeport and New Providence, but efforts proved fruitless up to press time.
