POLICE have issued a wanted bulletin for former political hopeful Omar Archer Sr for questioning in reference to the possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Mr Archer Sr, a 45-year-old Nassau Village resident, is a vocal supporter of the Free National Movement on social media.

On Thursday, Mr Archer Sr posted a photo to his page that depicted himself holding a shotgun with a text overlay that read "Minnis messenger paid for by the Free National Movement".

In the comment section, he explained that the edited photo was "the work of desperate PLP's trying to discredit me in any way possible".

Mr Archer Sr is a former Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) member and one time chairman of the now defunct third party, the Bahamas Democratic Movement (BDM).

An outspoken and controversial political figure, Mr Archer Sr has often clashed with members and supporters of opposing parties due to his confrontational style of campaigning.

Earlier this month, Democratic National Alliance Leader Branville McCartney announced that he has filed legal action against him in the Supreme Court over allegations he described as "gutter politics".

In a Facebook Live video, Mr Archer allegedly cautioned Mr McCartney to not criticise or speak ill of Free National Movement (FNM) Leader Dr Hubert Minnis, and threatened to reveal allegations about Mr McCartney’s family business and other personal details should the DNA leader not take heed.

In May 2015, police issued a wanted bulletin for Mr Archer Sr in connection with several ongoing investigations into intentional libel allegations. He grabbed headlines during that time after he jumped out of a second-storey window at the South Street Court Complex and broke his legs in the fall. Mr Archer Sr was at the court for an unrelated matter.

“He saw the officers and then he ran, nobody was pursuing him,” Chief Superintendent Paul Rolle said at the time.

In 2013, Mr Archer pleaded not guilty to charges of intentional libel and two counts of threats of death against National Security State Minister Keith Bell and a police officer.

It was alleged that on or about May 2, 2013, he unlawfully published defamatory remarks about Minister Bell and also threatened the senator with death.

It was also claimed that he threatened Cpl 1405 Adrian Miller with death on May 3, 2013.

Politicians who manipulate the police and the courts .......... are petty dictators-in-waiting

The PLP Cabinet are desperate to cover up the dirt that will bring them down by people like Omar Archer ..................... and they will do whatever is necessary to do so.

This "fake gun issue" is a prime example

The recklessness of the administration doesn't justify the actions of looney bins. This is the same scenario that plays out with the unions, while in opposition the parties support foolishness, then when they get in power they have to deal with out of control workers. This man needs a psychological evaluation, his friends should assist him not encourage him in destroying himself.

There is much to legitimately criticize the police about but not in this instance. In this instance they are doing exactly what they are suppose to do and would have been negligent if they had done nothing. It is precisely because this guy is a nut job that they had to do something. Events always occur in the backdrop of context, and context matters. Just suppose that he actually has a gun, talked about it on social media, actually hurt someone and the police waited until after the person was hurt to act. Some of the same folks on this blog would be here now calling the police all manner of derogatory names for their incompetence. The means must be congruent to the end. As much as you or me may want the PLP gone we must not encourage threats or insinuations of violence. That is not who we are!

You wouldn't realise how serious this situation is until you talk to some people on the family island and they tell you , " Chile I don't even think I voting in this election. The way they done carrying on. When you go to get pick up your voter's card they treating you like a criminal. Turning you around and this and that. Only certain people on the island could wear they (PLP) tt-shirts. Otherwise it is problem. They threaten to take everything from you..even your lil pension. I don't even know if I get vote this time."

I have had it with this criminal enterprising government. A Christie led PLP is absolutely atrocious for the Bahamas. I really hope they get a foot up their self-righteous asses at the poles. I fear they'll win again though.. sigh
