AFTER months of speculation, the Minnis Administration announced yesterday that Ellison Greenslade has been appointed High Commissioner of the Bahamas to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and as Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization.
The administration referred to Mr Greenslade as “former commissioner of police,” although it had never previously announced he resigned from that position. In recent months, National Security Minister Marvin Dames repeatedly said Mr Greenslade was still the substantive commissioner of police, even as Acting Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson moved to transfer some police officers to positions of his choosing, an act some familiar with the inner workings of the force said was unusual from a person in an “acting” role. The government had said Mr Ferguson was Acting Commissioner while Mr Greenslade was on vacation.
In addition to Mr Greenslade, former Free National Movement chairman Sidney Collie has been appointed Ambassador for the Bahamas to the United States of America and Permanent Representative to the Organisation of American States.
Appointed as Consuls General are former North Eleuthera MP Theo Neily as head of the Consulate General in Washington, DC; Astra Armbrister-Rolle as head of the Consulate General in Atlanta; Linda Treco-Mackey as head of the Consulate General in Miami; and Lawrence “Larry” Cartwright as head of the Consulate General in New York, NY.
In biographies released to the media, Mrs Armbrister-Rolle is described as a “fundraising professional in the non-profit sector.” Mrs Treco-Mackey was the campaign manager for Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis’ 2007 election bid and she has served as an executive on the FNM’s council and as its Deputy Treasurer. Mr Cartwright represented Long Island as its MP from 2002 to 2012.

So much for been a constitutional protected position. I voted for the FNM but they should have treated Mr. Greenslade in a more honorable manner. The position of Commisioner should not be at the whim of some politician.

I always liked Greenslade. I thought he showed sincerity in the way he handled himself. <br/> I do pray the next one will work sensibly. Sometimes things get worse not better. We shall see...

No one willing to sing for their supper and be beholden to corrupt politicians should enjoy constitutional protection. Nor should they be made an envoy of our nation to any country!

I think it was time for Mr. Greenslade to move on. New eyes and fresh hands on deck are needed in our evolving efforts to combat a new and more dangerous criminal element. Ten years at the helm is sufficient for a single Commissioner of Police, and like others before him, he is being honorably rewarded with a plum appointment for his acquiescence. I'm sure that he never anticipated the day would have come to see Keith Bell and Marvin Dames become his bosses. That's life!

The problem when you make the post like the commissioner of police one without term limits is that when they want you out, they will get you out and gone. And while Greenslade may be a good cop with much usefulness left in him, he cannot remain on the force without the move being perceived as a demotion. Maybe the time has come where a ‘police board’ consisting of senior police officers is established. These will be retired or inactive senior officers in good standing and they will act not unlike the board of directors of a company. They will meet and set policies and advise the commissioner and his senior officers.

MR" Greenslade was not treated with the respect he deserved. But what more can one expect
from catislandboy. providing he is from The Beautiful Cat Island in the first place. he does not
like brave and he thinks it is also all right to disrespect commissioner Greenslade. Brave
and the Commissioner have done Cat Island proud . Fine men of the Bahamian soil. I think
catislandboy problem with them is they were always smarter and they became more successful*than him. so instead of wishing them well. he tries to devalue them.
catislandboy stay close to your visionless FNM party.

Birdie, let's stay on topic, please. Or, is that too much to expect of you. Anyone with half a bird brain, who has visited Cat Island in the past ten years, would humbly submit that Brave Davis has not done anything for Cat Island. I promise you that he won't be re-elected in Cat Island next election. So if you are hanging your hopes on him becoming the next PM in order for your gravy train to begin to flow again, please forget it. The days of the Gravy Train are over Birdie! Just for the record, Birdie, I am just as accomplished, academically and professionally, as Davis or Greenslade, and would definitely put up my credentials against yours any day. Based upon your writings and reasoning, I surmise that you didn't make it past Standard III. Thus your failure to accept and understand that the Bahamas has moved beyond the PLP.

Exactly. With respect, what does an ex-police commissioner know about being High Commissioner of the Bahamas to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and as Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization? What exactly does this esteemed person do except have a ladida time in London at the expense of the tax payers? By the way, does anybody know what such an appointment costs? I don't think the High Commissioner and his family will fly back and forth on our national flag carrier! Flats is London are quite dear these days.

Greenslade seems to attract "soft" jobs ........ He was a diva boss in GB and got in trouble with taking all of the private gifts ........ then he became COP and kissed the 2 PMs ass to look good in order to finish his contract .......... now he is going to a plush embassy job to hob-nob with the elites ...... He should have nothing to complain about when he writes his memoirs ........ He lived high off the HOG and put on a "good show" but there is little to note for the time spent in the posts.
