Youth violence

EDITOR, The Tribune.

THE murder of that young 15-year old student, seems to have exposed us all to the nature of some of our young people. Our violent youth!

Many over the years spoke about how the schools were the nursery of crime, and everyone said no - but listen to what the young friends of this victim are saying!

Quote from a local newspaper - we will take retaliation for his death!

After this article appeared, I have not heard that the Police have visited the school involved - questioned the young people involved – questioned the journalist who did the interview, with the plan to arrest those who basically said they will commit a crime, to retaliate for the death of their fellow student.

Gang warfare? This is down and out criminal activity and suggests, as it has been said before, the schools - private and public– have to be checked for these elements - have to be checked for the use of marijuana and other drugs - knives and probably firearms.

Minister, no stone can be left unturned. You had better eradicate this near to over boiling pot now, before by the end of 2017, we will be burying more young people.

Do students need cellphones at school? I say no…Ministry needs to establish a rule that all cellphones are left at the gate, secured and returned after school.

We need to care for our young, so compulsory screening for marijuana use must be in place and for other drugs. Guidance to avoid starting using.
