Championship matchups are all set for tomorrow

WE have our final pairings to decide the 2018 Sam Haven National Soccer Championships, presented by the IL Cares Foundation.

The championship matchups in both divisions are all set to take place at the Roscow A L Davies Soccer Field on Saturday, April 21.

In Senior Boys’ play, the title game will feature a matchup of runners-up in their respective leagues when the Anatol Rodgers Timberwolves face the Lyford Cay Dragons.

The Senior Girls’ match will feature the Queen’s College Comets against the Lucayan International School Buccaneers.

In the first Senior semi-final, the Comets became the first team to make consecutive appearances in the National Soccer Championship finale.

The BAISS champions defeated the GSSSA champions, CR Walker Knights, 2-1.

The Comets got an early goal from Jenai Adderley and a late goal from Tyra McKenzie in the 57th minute.

On the other half of the bracket, Lucayan International advanced with a 4-1 win over the Aquinas Aces on penalty kicks. The Bucs will return to the title game for the second consecutive edition of the event.

In 2016 they suffered a 1-0 loss to the St Augustine’s College Big Red Machine.

In the Senior Boys’ semi-finals, the Timberwolves continued their surprising run through the bracket as they dethroned a league champion for the second time in three days.

The Timberwolves pulled off the upset over the BAISS champions St Andrew’s Hurricanes, 4-3 on penalty kicks. The Hurricanes missed an opportunity to return to the championship for the second time, following a 2-1 loss to the Comets in the 2016 title game.

The Timberwolves will face the Lyford Cay Dragons who won the final semi-final match Thursday night.

The BAISS runners-up delivered one of the most dominant performances of the tournament when they defeated the Tabernacle Baptist Academy Falcons to advance.
