This is why the death penalty needs to come back. Failing that the police just needs to apprehend these criminals with lethal force 100% of the time. The courts are unable to facilitate he high volume of these cases. Public executions of offenders not only frees up the legal backlog but also cuts down on the criminal population. Can’t commit crime when you’re dead.

You will never have enough bullets to kill all of them. The solution is in showing love and winning hearts and minds. I'm betting 100% of these young men feel that they're outcasts. I don't know that we will be successful at winning the hearts and minds war, I just know that's the only way out of this

That is the job of the parents. If children can't feel safe and loved in their homes first, then we have a major problem! Single parent homes are the cause of all our social ills!

we need for all honest citizens to have the right to bear arms. We are sitting ducks. also we help the criminals by putting every shooting on the front page of the newspapers in a tourist nation. how stupid can we get. it empowers the shooters and make them feel invincible. we are "bigging up" the criminal. it also lets the tourists know that crime is the most important thing in the bahamas because it is always on the front page of every paper.

How did a once gem of the world. The place where everyone from everywhere wanted to be, become soooooo VIOLENT ... DANGEROUS? What happened to the culture ... peoples of the 60's and 70's in BAHAMAS? Who are these new generation THUGS? Millennial and Generation X? SAD! SAD! SAD! Frankly, I have been advocating for Bahamas to RETURN to the CROWN.

Honolulu, I'm with you all the way. The Bahamas of today is a disgrace and it's people are violent. I know the Bahamas of the '60's and '70's when it was a fun, safe place to visit and most people got along.
In those days one didn't have to be rich to visit and a stay of one or two weeks was the norm. Now t's over priced and one doesn't dare leave the hotel grounds during their 4day stay. One can't see Nassau like that but going Over the Hill is risking ones life now.
Bring back British Rule and get rid of these thieving parliamentarians and crooked politicians.
Let's get some REAL governing going and pull this country up by it's boots so it can be what it should be; a beautiful, peaceful, productive place to live and visit.

Right on Honolulu and TorontoGal. I totally agree. My mom and I use to spend the summers in the Bahamas, in the late 70's and 80's. We spent a lot of the time in Freeport, which was booming back then. It was without a doubt the best time in my life. Everyone was our friends. We walked the island from one side to the other. Occasionally hitched a ride. We spent time in 8 mile rock, we didn't eat at the touristy restaurants. One night we arrived about 10:00 pm and one of our friends went in her restaurant and made dinner for us. She insisted, of course we payed her. We never encountered anything but kindness. I fell in love in Freeport and never have forgotten him. Actually that's why I started reading this paper. It made me feel closer to him. I've traveled to Nasssu many times to find him after 35 years, his name is John Braynen. I know he's in Nassau and his last known employment known by me was at the American Embassy as a security guard. I've gone "0ver the Hill" more than once, without incident. I did get a lot of attention. I do believe he would come to the resort if he knew. I don't want to interrupt in his current life, if in a current relationship. Maybe he isn't though. The crime has affected tourism a lot. A lot of people are afraid to get off the cruise ships. They are on vacation with their children and aren't going to take any chances. That's why the cruise lines like the private islands. I pray something changes. I really would like to spend more time there, and enjoy the Bahamian life style. I would like to go to church on Sunday with you. Eat in your food, not the American version. I haven't had boiled fish and johnny cake in many years. It's going to take some major changes to bring family and church back.

Ma Comrades, this Sunday morning the gospel Jesus was preached from churches pulpits across we colony of islands - but no preacherman's left their pulpits go take love Jesus outside walls they churches. Criminals and those leaning that bad way - will not attend Sunday morning church services.... nope, they ain't coming to sit before your pulpits. It's so obvious that Fox Hill needs you put some wheels your pulpits to roll through their streets their neighborhoods. They need you much more than the members your congregations does who done been washed in da blood too much times already to even notice preacherman's gone missing out the pulpit.
Amen!

This is an interesting question that has been raised. It is a complex problem with multiple causes, or so I believe. The Bahamas has adopted the Standard American Diet (SAD) of fast food and highly processed food. Junk food gives you what type of people? We are what we eat. Most children are born into a home which lacks the material resources to provide an advantageous start for a child. how many children are read too by their parent every single night at bed-time. Unlike the other Caribbean countries most mothers do not breast feed their babies, this can make about a 5% difference to their IQ, let alone their emotional stability and disease resistance. Nassau in particular, lacks available wide open green spaces with trees for children to play, exercise, and interact with others. Sitting by the roadside breathing in exhaust fumes from cars is just not good. Because narcotics are illegal and widely used, the urban areas are divided into gang turfs which provide a source of income and feed the power that the gangs have in communities. Children are conceived without much planning on the part of the parents who most often are in an unstable relationship. We live in a society where mothers must return to work soon after the birth of their babies who are then given into the care of strangers who are paid to care for them. This not good. Children learn primarily by example and they do not have good examples to follow. Like most other Western Democracies our governments have continuously borrowed and then spent more that they have collected in taxes , the day of reckoning is now here, we can no longer mortgage the future of our children and grandchildren to indulge in a lifestyle funded by borrowed government money. Civilizations have always risen and fallen, the crime wave that permeates the Bahamas may just be a symptom of the decline of the Western Democratic system, time will tell. It certainly seems like we are on a death spiral and I am starting to loose hope that our leaders can up with ant strategy to reverse the trend. If the USA declares a war on a powerful enemy then things will get ugly here very fast. I would start going to church if I really thought it could make any difference. In the meantime I have given my children as best I can the skills and knowledge to survive the times that 'I fear are soon coming.

Why do you think many our younger people see little Jesus in we clergy. In truth, they see them as FAKES.... that Jesus has be better than what they see in them?
Just take few minutes reflect on what God's horoscope would read if only his guidance would stop by each and every Comrade Pracherman's and Preacherwoman's church to speak with each individually to see what Jesus can do across Nassau and Freeport - if only they would make commitment "Walk Away From Comfort Their Pulpit's" in mass on a Sunday morning to reach out beyond cement blocks and wooden walls their churches..... maybe even take churches Choirs to the people as a message we the church will play our role the solutions what pains our two colony of islands cities that are on destructive fire course. This is what religion is suppose be about.......that PEOPLE does matter. That our two cities are worthy saving from destructive fires..... if not your congregations will soon be without jobs and when there are no paycheques - there will be no monies dump collection plates. Amen!

In the States there are cities that I believe the same about. They are so far away from god or family that they have payed the price. Louisiana is one, often referred to as sin city. Chicago, look at the massacre this past weekend. Katrina wiped out Louisiana and its really never been the same. Chicago is run by gangs. Give the people their guns back. Look at New York. You can't live in Kennesaw Georgia and not own a firearm. It's the law, guess what, very little crime. Fairly large city.

My people continue to amaze me, not one blog in favor of blaming the Haitians for all of our single parent fall out as they seem to be responsible for every other ill that plagues our country.
The truth of the matter is we are merely now reaping what we have sowed for the last 45 years.

Decriminalizes cannabis, close down street shops, let government sell and be the distributors , only then cannabis street wars will end, police can then focus on gun smuggling with more police available to crack down on the other crimes, as long as cannabis remains illegal and sold on the streets there will be murders and gun violence over this herb, cannabis brings in a lot of money, money for street gangs is power, without the cannabis to fight over, there will be no need to fight,
