Presbyterian College beat UB Mingoes in thriller

Kemsy Sylvestre lead the UB Mingoes with 25 points and 10 rebounds in their 85-76 loss to Presbyterian College Tuesday at The Kendal Issacs Gym in Summer of Thunder action.

In a game with seven ties and 16 lead changes, the Mingoes were within four points twice in the last minute but Presbyterian College hit seven free-throws in the last minute to secure the win.

“They gave us a good run and pulled it out at the end where I think we just got fatigued,” said coach Bacchus Rolle.

“We also really wanted to concentrate on our defensive effort because in our last game we really lacked it.”

The Mingoes forced 17 turnovers that converted to 16 points to go along with 10 steals in the team’s second game of the Summer of Thunder series.

“We really focused on our defence in this game as we are still getting ready for the season,” said Justin Smith, who had 11 points and six rebounds.

Promise

Coach Rolle added that his team is showing promise as they are further ahead at this point in the season compared to last season.

“The reality is this is the second time that I’ve had the whole team out because this is summer break and we are really working on some things,” he said. “We are seeing some good things from the team and we should be ready for the upcoming season.”

For the Mingoes, Ramon Dames also scored 12 points and Antwan Bevans and Donovan Dean each scored nine points.

The Mingoes will play the final game of the Summer of Thunder series against Northern Arizona University 3pm Sunday August 19, 2018 at the Kendal Issacs Gym.
