Best choice is clear to me

EDITOR, The Tribune

Global Holdings and APD/Arawak Port Development must have got a shock of their lives when the PS, Finance read out that a Mega Cruise Line group - Carnival - RCL - NCL -Disney had put in a bid for the Port of Nassau.

This is very significant, although individually cruise lines have Port operations, Falmouth-Jamaica with Global being the private operator.

Did this move by the Cruise Lines send a signal of their dissatisfaction as to how ports of call for their ships were being managed? Or…The cruise lines realised how much Global was profiting off the presence of their ships in ports Global manages - whichever way a slam in Global’s face and posturing.

If the Cruise Line group won the Nassau Port some say conflict of interest…collectively they more than are the majority of cruise lines sailing the seas so that is eliminated.

The key is only the Cruise Lines, can change a itinerary - which ships’ ports at which end of the cruise - Global can’t. There is a very clear economic reason why the Cruise Line Group should be considered as the best choice…conditional they deliver three-mega ships to Nassau every week having not visited more than one port pre-arriving at Nassau.

The Cruise line group should not be allowed to operate the Nassau cruise port, Thats like the Airlines operating the Lynden Pindling Int Airport....Big time conflict of interest. What will happen when other cruise lines who are not apart of the NCL RCL, Carnival, Disney group want to call at Nassau. Will they be given the same benefits as this group if they Win ?. , ,Which cruise line itinearary will be given priority for birthing schedules. .With all the details in the public domain, This group (Global Port Holdings) has a far superior bid that touches all crucial points and covers all the necessary basis for effectively Managing, Operating, Spreading the wealth to the average Bahamian, and vastly improving the infrastructure and taking the Nassau port well into the 21 century. Global Ports should win hands down. Operating Cruise ports is what Global Ports does. The cruise lines should stick to their Business and let a port operator like global run the port. The committee will be wise in this recommendation to the Government.

Couldnt agree more!! What do you think when MSC wants to call at Nassau? Ofcourse they will not allow it. For sure they will block all berths even if they are empty.

Cruise line operating the port would pose as a serious conflict of interest. They have no experience whatsoever in running a port. How about they stay in their own greedy unsanitary lane? Also, I haven't heard anything about the money hungry cruise lines investing in Bahamians. Allowing Bahamians shares in the port by Global Ports speaks volumes. They truly have the interests of our people at heart.

My friend, you obviously have no idea about the profit that cruise lines make. These companies worth billions of dollars. Money they will make out of Nassau port will be so tiny comparing to what they earn elsewhere that they will not care about the business here. The only reason why they want to operate the port is to keep the status quo!
