Man shot by police after high-speed chase

TWO suspected armed robbers, one of whom was shot by police, are in hospital after crashing into a utility pole as they attempted to evade arrest.

According to police, shortly before 9pm Saturday officers were alerted by concerned residents in eastern New Providence of a suspicious Nissan vehicle in the area. Police officers, who were on patrol in that area, responded and spotted the vehicle on Prince Charles Drive and ordered the vehicle to stop.

The occupants refused, sped off and eventually stopped when their vehicle collided into a utility pole in the area of Super Value, Winton Meadows, police said.

One of the men was immediately taken into custody. The second suspect ran into nearby bushes, where he confronted an officer with an object, police said.

“He was shot to the leg and taken into custody,” police said in a statement. “The vehicle was searched and a quantity of marijuana was recovered. Both men were taken to hospital and are listed in fair condition, under heavy police guard. Police suspect the men to be involved in a number of recent armed robberies.”

The seized drugs weighed 1.2 pounds.

Police are also asking for help in solving an armed robbery that occurred Saturday night shortly before 8pm.

A woman said she had just arrived home in Marigold Estates when she was approached by a gunman who robbed her of her cash and other items before getting into a Nissan vehicle and speeding away. Investigations continues into this matter.

It is unclear if the suspect in this incident was involved in the later car chase with police.

Investigations continue.

So police are still wrecking cars and shooting suspects for small amounts of marijuana. The initial report said a few once’s now this one says 1.2 pounds. Jamaica is celebrating the opening of its first marijuana dispensary today, marijuana is legal al over the United States and will be legal all over Canada by summer. Time for Marvin Dames, The minister of health and the commissioner of police and others concerned to sit dow and set a clear policy on persons caught with small amounts of marijuana. Not it should not be legal at this time but make it offensive and stop wasting court time and police resources chasing small amounts of weed. Well unless you’re taking the side of Donald Trump who is pushing for the death penalty for drug dealers. Word on the street is that may already be in effect here. BTW how many of the 30 of the last police helicopter invasion were charged and brought before the courts?

Not the end of story. No one should be shot or die due to possession of a small amount of weed for personal use. Imagine being shot for a Kalik or a Heineken. A man was badly beaten and tazed in North Carolina for jay walking across an empty street. Jay walking is against the law too. Our cops better mind which police force they choose to emulate.

It is not the end of the month f story. That is why there’s debate. The war on drugs was designed with a special intent and is now evolving into the ‘war on gangs ‘ as jurisdictions seek to legalize or, at least, decriminalize marijuana.
