POLICE took three boys into custody after finding a small quantity of “dangerous drugs” at a high school in New Providence Thursday.

Police press spokesperson Assistant Superintendent Shanta Knowles said police suspect the drug found is marijuana.

She said police are still investigating the matter.

Police are also investigating a shooting incident on Wednesday that left a man nursing injuries.

Shortly after 3pm the man was standing on the corner of Balfour Avenue and Washington Street when he was approached by a man with a firearm. The man shot him before running away.

Police are searching for a man involved in an attempted armed robbery on Wednesday. Shortly after 8am that day a man armed with a firearm entered a service station on Tonique Williams-Darling Highway and demanded cash. His robbery attempt was unsuccessful so he ran from the station, jumped into a purple Nissan Cube and sped off.

Marijuana is not a dangerous drug. Now these young men will have a criminal record. Stupid. Legalize marijuana and stop making criminals out of people...

Notwithstanding all the benefits that supporters list for marijuana, I thought everyone acknowledged that its not a suitable drug for teenagers. I doubt they'll give them a criminal sentence, it already stated that when these cases go to court the judge will typically opt for a treatment program. Now it might be different if these guys were selling drugs. I don't know anyone who'd think it was ok for a teenager to be selling anything illegal to minors

More than half of Bahamian high schoolers have probably smoked weed at least once ......... Why are we acting as this is so surprising??????

DDK says...

Agreed, but even when legal, it should not be allowed in schools. Nor should it be o.k. to be high in school, in the work place or while operating a vehicle.

I agree with DDK ......... but we must decriminalize marijuana because it affects the small man terribly ...... while the dealers and the PEPs get rich.

If you're a 30 year old, do what you want and accept the consequences, but it's not funny when you're talking about children who have no idea what they're doing to their brains or their physical development.

The Bahamas is a stupid country with the dumbest leaders imaginable.

Out country motto should be: "‎Backward, Downward, Regress Together"

Yep - more young lives ruined by a criminal record. As Bahamians we don't need any country to declare war on us - we are doing a great job all by ourselves.

Too bad the police don't have any real criminals to find.

ALL drugs are dangerous to developing minds. If marijuana was as harmless as a glass of water it would not be illegal!

Cigarettes kill millions, Sugar kills millions, alcohol kills millions, High Fructose Corn syrup kills, TOO MUCH WATER CAN KILL, All these things are killers and are perfectly legal, the word danger should describe something that is a proven killer, not something that we were programmed to believe is "dangerous" when it can actually heal. By-the-way a glass of water is not as harmless as one thinks; however I do get your point, cannabis should not be for healthy kids.

Dangerous does not mean able to cause death, but refers to the negative effects something could have on a system. Psychotic episodes have been proven with marijuana use in some people and it can trigger schizophrenia in others. A growing brain derives no benefits from recreational marijuana use!!
And by the way marijuana contains the same cancer causing compounds as tobacco!

Thank you for the knowledge. Any comments or enlightenment on the rest of proven killers I mentioned above?

Truth is we live in a fallen world. Nothing is perfect and anything you eat or drink has potential negative effects. The key is to educate oneself as best as possible and make the best choices possible. In reality even if one does all the right things you can still develop cancer or other illnesses, but it is foolish to smoke, eat or drink things that have known negative effects and not expect consequences!

Do you know that the original Coke soda contained cocaine? The developer of Coke soda, John Pemberton was a pharmacist who fashioned the popular soft drink after s French coca wine that was also made from an extract from cocoa leaves. Many drinks continued cocaine around that time because it was neither illegal and its highly addictive power was not known. Even though cocaine is no longer used in the popular soft drink, the actual ingredients in Coca Cola is a highly guarded secret. When the FDA required that the ingredients of all products crossing state boarders in the US be revealed, the Coca-Cola Company got around this law by opening bottling plants in every state in the USA. And in the late 1980’s -1990’s when the (Coke) drug abuse grew to epidemic proportions, The Coca-Cola Company claimed it had ‘lost’ the original recipe for Coca-Cola. It came out with a product called New Coke. But as sales started to fizzle because consumers claimed the New Coke was too weak or to watery or too sweet, the Coca-Cola Company mysteriously ‘found’ the original recipe and started bottling (and canning) Original Coke again. The actual ingredients in this product is still a highly kept secret.

The leaf of the coca plant was chewed by indigenous Indians in south America to reduce hunger pangs and increase energy levels in high altitudes. The use of coca in Coke was long before the negative effects of the coca plant were known!

When Coca-Cola was first made it claimed to have medicinal benefits. Children were not allowed to drink it even though it was called a ‘soft drink ‘A can of Coke today h reportedly contains the equivalent of 12 teaspoons of sugar.

And while the Coca-Cola Company denies the caffeine and sugar, which they claim are the two main ingredients in the soft drink Coke soda is highly addictive.persons are known to drink more than a six pack a day and go through withdrawal symptoms when they try to quit. But the same thing happens with coffee drinkers.

Yep .......... Coke, coffee, beer, gin, vodka, OTC pills, cigars, cigarettes, and 85% of food sold in Bahamian foodstores, etc. are all legal and their brands are touted as excellent and their distributors are all hailed as respectable businessmen ........ But the products are NOT good for the citizens and is increasing healthcare, insurance, welfare, funeral, and road costs.

John Most of your info about Coke is true, but they don't deny that there is sugar and caffeine. They have regular coke and diet coke, then caffeine free of both. At least here. Coke's headquarters are here in Atlanta, which I lived most of my life. If you get a job with coke, your doing well. I believe the article was talking about marijuana, its a misdemeanor here.

Everything in moderation....and the way marijuana has been molested in attempts to make it more potent, less bulky, seedless and less aromatic, when growing or being smoked... then the various product they spray on it including Paraquat, embalming fluid plus some weed has fungus from being stored in damp areas and it may also be synthetic FLaKKA, that can kill your kidneys in one smoke session or other bath salts and even cocaine or hash oil..it is not something little school boys should be experimenting with. Send them to drug rehab rather than prison.

Marijuana will fry your brain over a very short period of time.It is not like any other drug like rum oor beer.I have seen it happen and it only leads to other heavy drugs that will cause you to be become adicted to it.Good luck if you think it is like smoking a camel.

**I'm going to bet that stoner has seen it happen. Because marijuana is a chemical. Each of us has a unique chemical composition and we react differently to "chemicals". What you may have smoked for 30 years with no negative side effects, could trip someone out on their first try**. This is what I find most dangerous about this "marijuana is great" talk, nobody points out that we don't know the right dosages, we don't know what body compositions are susceptible to harmful effects, we just put forward this line that it's a wonder drug. I've heard just this week that doctors are seeing some extremely abnormal readings from persons using morenga tea. I'm sure no one would say morenga is "dangerous". But its another "chemical" that needs to be taken in correct dosages, I was also told that similar results are being found for sera-see (I have no idea how to spell it). As I told the person that said this to me, did your mother give you sera-see tea every day? "No". She gave it to you if you were sick. Dud she make you drink multiple cups a day because "more" would be better? "No" you had at most one cup. Cinnamon is another super spice, but you misuse that and your liver is cooked! So no, marijuana is not "harmless"

Lol...You guys are all over exaggerating, banana republic, extremist. **Sugar** does more damage and kills more people daily than marijuana has in 10 decades!

Amsterdam legalized personal use amounts of cannabis since 1950, it is sold in coffee shops openly on the streets, has no reports of "fried brain" problems, and is a much more civilized, advanced country than the Bahamas EVER will be.

https://www.amsterdam.info/drugs/

We are a backward, stupid, little country with little hope of progressing because we are too dumb to learn what works from other countries, after having our "brains fried" by tribalism and 6 decades of asinine political stupidity and corruption!

The Bahamas....Jackass heaven.
