'Enough is Enough': Protest against government in Rawson Square

• The updated version of this story is now online HERE

HUNDREDS of Bahamians stormed Bay Street Wednesday to protest against the Minnis administration, high unemployment and rising electricity bills.

Many protesters held signs that read “FNM torch burn out”, “BPL robbing us, no weapon, no mask” and “Light bill too high” - all chanting “Minnis got to go” in solidarity. The House of Assembly was in session at the time.

At one point, those taking part followed Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis as he made his way from Parliament to his Cabinet Office.

You're wrong. This country has never had such a dumb, incompetent, nasty and feckless PM......a PM who has yet to figure out whether he's going East or West.

BahamaPundit says...

I would have to agree. I hate to say it but Minnis is by far far far the worst PM we have had in terms of leadership, communication, organization and steering the country in a possitive direction. He needs to change 100% from his current style and method in order to restore a tiny bit of faith in his abilities. This is in no way saying the PLP are an alternative. Both parties act like complete hoodlums and the Bahamas would be a million times better off without either.

The FNMs continue to delude themselves that this is all a PLP plot. There have been numerous calls for action that no one showed up to. PLP, LRT, BVN, CVW,it doesn't matter. Sure the PLP might have a plot any self respecting opposition would, but the reason people showed up is because there's anger and a general sense that Turnquest and Johnson have no clue what they're doing. Their current request is to dig up in personal bank accounts to see where they can get money from next.

No. There is no party. Can we not see that the cheerleading for a party is what is holding us back? We need new ideas, new leaders, a new way of participating in our democracy. Unfortunately, the basis for positive change is a well-educated populace. This is something to work towards, but we are a generation away, at best, in achieving this goal. There are no short term solutions to the mess we are in. Our leadership exemplifies the greed and lack of a knowledge base needed to make sound socially-minded decisions. The same things which are lacking in our populace at large.
If truly $600,000,000 are going to the web shops each year in this small country, what chance do we have of electing good leaders? Someone recently told me that the future of this country is that the web shop owners will completely own and run this country in a few years. I couldn't argue his point. Can anyone?

Perry was so convincing with his BS, deflections, schemes and crap ...... but HAM is just blunt and impatient with a corrupt political system that is designed to be a "quagmire of web" ............. It just has to be blown up and restarted.

Of course not sure people are sure what they want. Do they want lower BEC bills or lower Taxes. If lower BEC then taxes will have to go up for the Government to fund the offset, or we could wait until BEC is officially broke and then have no power. Yes i know someone will say fix BEC then you can have lower bills and no change in taxes. But that won't happen overnight and will take a number of years to fix due to all the legacy issues.

Posted 21 November 2018, 3:04 p.m. Suggest removal

DDK says...

Of course BEC is officially broke, they hid that fact in plain sight by creating BPL and spending thousands to do just that - so much corruption and employee/union problems, combined with rank inefficiency for decades. I hope the folks at Rawson Square don't think the PLP are blameless.

I agree with you on those. Of course the Government has been slammed for being so heartless in the last year or two for reducing the civil servants so they can't win either way. But if they don't do what you are saying then the only thing that will happen is tax rises.

What did I tell all of you posting here in the run up to Election Day back in May 2017? I told you to THINK, THINK, THINK! But very few of you did so, instead choosing to once again fall victim to the two-party system of politics that has for decades been running our country and all true Bahamians right into the ground. Now King Sebas of Lucky Charms and Crown Prince Craig of Flowers Galore are planning to buy the next general election by hand picking the slate of PLP candidates and bank rolling their campaigns. Can't wait too see Bahamian voters, especially Bahamian/Haitian voters, once again show their stupidity in the next general election. LMAO
