THE St George’s Jaguars and the St John’s Giants won the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology’s National High School Basketball Tournament titles for senior boys and girls respectively.
The Jaguars repeated as champions as they knocked off arch rivals Tabernacle Baptist Falcons 62-57 on Monday night at their own St George’s Gymnasium in Grand Bahama.
Paul Greene, whose cast came off his left hand the day before the tournament began on Thursday, finished with 22 points and 17 rebounds to be named the most valuable player.
On the girls side, the St John’s Giants completed a perfect season as they added the national title to their Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools’ crown with a 56-44 decision over arch-rivals St Augustine’s College Big Red Machine.
Michelle Butler, in her first year at St John’s, came through with 17 points and 14 rebounds to be named the MVP.
Deputy Prime Minister Peter Turnquest, the Member of Parliament for East Grand Bahama, was on hand to present the trophies to the various winners.
