ON Saturday night, conservationist, environmental attorney and author Robert F. Kennedy, Jr will deliver a lecture entitled: “Access to clean water, it’s a human right” at 7pm at the Regency Theatre in Grand Bahama.
“We are delighted to welcome Mr. Kennedy to the Bahamas once again,” said Rashema Ingraham, executive director of non-profit Waterkeeper Bahamas, a close collaborator with Save The Bays. “He has been here many times before and has taken a keen interest in the preservation of our precious environment. He has a wealth of knowledge to share with the public.
“We are encouraging all Grand Bahamians to come out and listen to this world renowned environmental advocate discuss a matter that is so critical to our society. Water quality issues affect nearly every aspect of daily existence in a small island nation - from health, to quality of life, to economic opportunities. Come learn what your rights are and discover what can be done to ensure that future generations of Bahamians can enjoy the benefits of access to clean water.”
Robert Kennedy, Jr helped found and is the current president of Waterkeeper® Alliance, a global network with over 300 members and affiliates that is focused on promoting waters that are swimmable, fishable and drinkable. Around the world, Waterkeepers are on the front lines of the global water crisis, patrolling and protecting more than 2.5 million square miles of rivers, lakes and coastal waterways on six continents.
From 1986 until 2017, he served as senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), a non-profit environmental organization. He served from 1984 until 2017 as board member and chief prosecuting attorney for Hudson Riverkeeper.
For over 30 years, Kennedy has been a professor of Environmental Law at Pace University School of Law. Until August 2017, he also held the post as supervising attorney and co-director of Pace Law School's Environmental Litigation Clinic, which he founded in 1987. He is currently professor emeritus at Pace.
Kennedy co-hosts Ring of Fire, a nationally syndicated American radio programme, and has written or edited ten books, including two New York Times bestsellers and three children's books.

You won't hear Kennedy say anything negative about the environmentally unfriendly development projects approved by the Minnis-led FNM government in recent months. He's been here many times before and has achieved little if anything for us from an environmental standpoint. His time would be better spent lobbying the U.S. government on our behalf for a grant to assist with our potable water needs. But then again, the Kennedy family just doesn't have the political clout in DC that they once enjoyed. Of course the more elite within our gated-communities will fall over themselves trying to fete him thought his visit. Oh well...hope he enjoys his vacation in our rapidly shrinking pristine environment.

Well - as i predicted - it's already started. The environmentalist idiots are bringing out the BIG guns right at the beginning of the battle.
So long Carnival Cruise port development. May as well pack your bags tonight. Flights are full for the holiday weekend - but you can go on standby.

Did he mention the huge refinery coming to GB?
Did he mention the plans to bring Shell and LNG into the Bahamas so the world can keep burning fossil fuels another 50 years?

Good point you made. I am NOT an environmentalist. I believe the best thing humans can do for the environment is buy condoms b4 they spend all their money on beer. BUT bear in mind that even if we figure out how to run every car and every machine on electricity which is obtained from non-oil sources - we will still need oil to lubricate the gears and other stuff in machinery.
Right now Freeport needs Carnival and Oban very badly
If we get them i hope the people are smart enough not to create too many children for which the new jobs wont support AND the govt starts to get rid of ovebreeding low standard of living Haitians.

Spot on, sir. Thank you for stating the truth.
Robert Kennedy Jr. has spent a lifetime promoting many outwardly worthy causes for dubious, self-serving motives, according to reports. He is not to be trusted, as many people here see him.
The issue of his late wife's 'suicide' caught the notice of many.
The Kennedy's have 'theirs', and they want more of it, at expense of the rest of us. That's all they've ever been about, since old Joe Kennedy began his career as a bootlegging gangster.
Robert Kennedy was a disaster as AG, and Teddy in fact did collude with the soviets to render American vulnerable to Russian missile attacks.
The Kennedys are nobody's friend, and couldn't care less about the so-called 'environment.'
The idea that Carnival would build a facility for the purpose of despoiling the land is typical leftist rhetorical noise. The Left doesn't want Carnival, nor does the Left want 'sustainable' energy.
The Left and its acolytes such as Robert Kennedy, Jr. want no energy, except for themselves.
The Left has long cherished the idea of 'the masses' starving to death cold dark hovels, so that the Elites can have the planet as their spoil.

Hmmm. Well, ELITES benefit with Carnival as a few foreign shareholders then make all the profits off our tourism, and foreign workers aboard the ships are paid peanuts to do what Bahamian workers would do if tourists visited via hotels at proper wages. So not wanting Carnival hurts these elites, and is in fact to the betterment of the common Bahamian person. Have never understood why the transformation of our tourism into a cruise based product is not met with more opposition for the toxic development it really is.

I think 5% at best of what Oban would refine would end up as lubricants. Besides does the Gulf coast not produced millions of barrels of refined products already? Hard to see how Oban is truely "needed" in a world going green, which of course its not, if Oban does proceed, so to proceed/permit it is to admit failure.
No island "needs" Carnival, its like saying factory workers in Michigan "need" Mexican plants to replace them. What the Bahamas needs is no cruise ships and a vibrant land based hotel economy which you would have if you kicked out all the cruise ships. If decades of more cruise visitors and bigger ships were the "answer" everything would already be fine in the Bahamas (which its not).

Who appointed you the arbiter of other peoples' 'needs'? You clearly haven't any facts, do you?
Clearly, you don't like cruise ships. Good for you. But economic growth does not abide your likes and dislikes.

Miami Herald, April 2019
"* the year after Carnival Corporation was convicted of systematically dumping oily waste into the ocean and lying about it to regulators, its ships illegally discharged more than a half-million gallons of treated sewage, gray water, oil and food waste, and burned heavy fuel oil in ports and waters close to shores around the world, according to a court-appointed monitor.*"
"*The findings are part of a pattern of illegal behavior during Carnival Corp.’s first of five years on probation that led U.S. District Judge Patricia Seitz to publish a previously confidential report last week. In the 205-page report, the monitor overseeing Carnival Corp.’s environmental compliance **flagged more than 800 incidents from April 2017 to April 2018***".

No coincidence that Baby Kennedy is in the Bahamas, obstructing Carnival's plans, while a Clinton-appointed judge applies pressure to Carnival stateside, is it?
This is how things work with the Deep State DC power mafia, isn't it?
Likely the message will be, the federal courts will back off provided Carnival backs away from its plans.
Odd, Royal Caribbean recently announced some big plans, but no one's opposing them, are they? And Royal Carib's silence on this dustup is deafening, isn't it?

Amazing. Does the Bahamas not have to consider compliance with regulators in other places to allow Carnival to operate here? And did any of these incidents occur in the Bahamas? And if so, what action was taken?

The specious arguments against Carnival's project, baby Kennedy's appearance in the Bahamas coincident with a Clinton-appointed federal judge attacking Carnival with Lawfare and Judicial Terrorism are by no means a coincidence, are they?
They're of a piece with Lawfare and Judicial Terrorism, the DC political establishment's favorite method of destroying progress. And Robert Kennedy, Jr. is very much part of that establishment.

Many of us are not in favour of "progress" at any cost. Take Carnival for example. Just about any private pilot who has been flying for years will tell you they have witnessed many instances, going as far back as the late 1970s, of Carnival's cruise ships dumping tons of untreated refuse in our once pristine waters. I have taken many aerial photographs over the years from my plane showing the long plumes of dark brown refuse trailing for miles in the wake of Carnival's cruise ships while in our waters. And I'm sure I'm not the only private pilot with such photographs. Our government should be suing Carnival for damages to our environment, among other things, rather than granting them approvals or concessions of any kind for their proposed development projects anywhere in our country.
