Eagles clinch senior boys’ title with 71-48 win over Knights

THE senior title stayed in Bimini while the junior boys’ crown came to New Providence as the 2019 Eagles Invitational Basketball Classic concluded at the Gateway Sporting Arena over the weekend.

The host Gateway Christian Academy Eagles, coached by Gilbert Rolle Jr, clinched the senior boys’ title with a 71-48 victory over the CR Walker Knights to remain undefeated at 8-0 in the tournament. Bradley Lightbourne scored a game high 29 points and was named the most valuable player. C McPhee added 13 and Z Kelly had 12 on four three-pointers.

The Knights were coached by Darshtyn Rolle, who got 16 from S McKenzie and 13 from M Rolle in a losing effort.

In the junior boys’ division, the CV Bethel Stingrays, coached by Danny Pratt, emerged as the champions with a 48-44 decision over the Gateway Academy Eagles.

Jalen Cadet was named the MVP after he scored 16 points. G Moss contributed 13 and D Whymns had eight.

Gilbert Rolle Jr coached the Eagles.

The tournament, which got started 12 years ago, was founded by Apostle Gilbert Rolle Sr. His son, Gilbert Rolle Jr, is now the coordinator.

In the consolation game, the St George’s Jaguars prevailed with a 53-52 win over the Mt Carmel Cavaliers as J McKenzie scored 14 and T McGregor had 12.

For the Cavaliers, M Smith poured in a game high 30 and E Butterfield chipped in with 10.
