THE PRESS BOX: Cowboys rookie RB Tony Pollard ‘turning heads early’

By INIGO 'NAUGHTY' ZENICAZELAYA

WHILE Ezekiel Elliott continues to hold out, all while Dak Prescott’s alleged contract demands are downright ludicrous, and Amari Cooper continues to hobble around on an injured heel, Cowboys fans have rookie RB Tony Pollard to take our minds off the aforementioned Elliot, Prescott, Cooper drama in Dallas.

Pollard wasn’t the Cowboys’ first pick in the 2019 draft, but as of now he’s a favourite to have the biggest impact out of the team’s entire draft class.

TURNING HEADS EARLY

Pollard has impressed at every turn since becoming a Cowboy.

Whether it’s special teams or an increased load on offence during Ezekiel Elliott’s holdout, the team has heaped loads of responsibilities on the rookie’s plate, and Pollard just continues to dazzle the coaching staff with each added assignment.

VERSATILITY AND STRENGTH ARE KEY

Pollard’s versatility is his biggest weapon. Pollard is quite capable of producing as a running back and as a receiver -- (both out of the backfield or in slot ) -- to go along with his ability to fit into every special teams unit.

Pollard has proven to be an effective, impressive runner with incredible vision, one-cut ability and breakaway speed.

Being labelled a ‘gadget’ back, Pollard displays power in his game.

Though Pollard has impressed with his ability between the tackles, he will always be most effective in space, where his athleticism and elusiveness make him a potent weapon.

INSPIRATIONAL

Pollard is the type of player who can really spark the creativity of an offensive coordinator.

First year OC Kellen Moore, seems to be following in that pattern as well when deploying the rookie running back offensively.

Pollard is exactly the kind of talent that can play a major role in a modern offence -- a poor mans version of Alvin Kamara.

Pollard is that versatile and talented that it will allow him to make an impact even when Elliott returns to the Cowboys’ starting lineup.

SCARY SKILL SET

Pollard is a defence’s worst nightmare -- he’s too quick and explosive for most linebackers to cover, and too hard to tackle one-on-one, putting defensive coordinators in quite a quandary.

The fourth round pick out of Memphis looks like a steal at this juncture.

He should make an impact in a variety of ways, once the regular season rolls around.
