A pair of senior men’s national basketball team members were on the move recently as they signed with new clubs in Europe.

LJ Rose will head to Estonia for the first time while JR Cadot will remain in Spain for another season.

Rose signed with BC Valga-Valka in the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League.

Rose’s last professional action was in his second stint in the National Basketball Association’s G-League with the Salt Lake City Stars, the G-League affiliate of the Utah Jazz.

Rose began the season with the Stars, but appeared in just two games and averaged 2.5 points and two assists in eight minutes of play before he was initially waived.

He then appeared as the starting point guard for the Bahamas’ national team which participated in the first series of the FIBA World Cup 2019 Qualifiers for the Americas region.

Despite the Bahamas’ 0-2 finish, Rose was a bright spot for the team with the numbers he posted, averaging 8.5 points, nine assists and six rebounds per game.

He opened with eight points, eight assists and seven rebounds in the 93-69 loss on the road to Canada. In the 93-85 loss to the US Virgin Islands at home, Rose finished with nine points, 10 assists and five rebounds.

Rose completed an injury-shortened final collegiate season, with the BYU Cougars before shifted his sights to the professional ranks. He moved from one “Cougar” programme to another for the third stop of his NCAA basketball career when he transferred as a post-graduate from the University of Houston to BYU.

He started 25 games in his lone season with BYU and led the team with 4.5 assists per game to go along with 5.5 points and 4.6 rebounds. His season was cut short when he had surgery in February 2017 to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.

In his first national team appearance, Rose was the starting point guard for The Bahamas when they won gold at the 2014 Caribbean Basketball Confederation Championships. However, he suffered an injury in the opening game of the tournament and was relegated to the sidelines.

JR Cadot will return to Spain and signed with Aceitunas Fragata Moron of the of Spain’s Liga Espanola de Baloncesto (LEB Silver). LEB Silver is the second division in the country and was founded in 1996.

The veteran guard spent last season Real Canoe Madrid also of the LEB Silver League where he averaged 17 points and 5.4 rebounds per game In the same season, he also spent time with Basket Navarra and averaged nine points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

Prior to that, Cadot was on the roster of Zornotza Saskibaloi Taleda in LEB Silver last season when he averaged 11.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game in 31 contests.

In October 2017, the Windsor Express selected Cadot with the 13th overall pick in the National Basketball League of Canada Draft.

He also played for the UMF Skallagnimur Borgans in the Icelander League where he averaged 24.1 points, 16.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.9 block shots in 35 minutes per game.

He began his pro career with BKU Supa Nitra in Slovakia where he averaged 16.5 point and 6.7 rebounds in 28 games.

He concluded his NCAA career with the TCU Horned Frogs, averaging 10 points and 6.5 rebounds in 65 games played, good enough for second place on the TCU All-Time list. He was also named to the All-conference team for the Mountain West during his senior season.

Internationally for The Bahamas, Cadot has appeared on senior national teams for the CBC Championships in 2006 and 2011 and the Centrobasket Championships in 2012 and 2016.

His career averages at the national team level are 5.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.
