Dozens of participants swam, biked and ran in the name of a good cause at the 2019 Powerade Potcakeman Triathlon yesterday at Clifton Heritage Park.

At the end of the gruelling trek, Marcos Aballi and Ellen Morgan were overall individual winners in the male and female groups respectively.

In the relays, “Les Fous” took first place among males, “Dead Last” was first in the female division and “Tri Not To Kramp” topped the heavily populated mixed relay division.

Aballi, 33, finished in an overall time of 1:06.44 secs, ahead of Adam Cripwell who was just several seconds behind in 1:06.48 secs and Cameron Roach was third in 1:08.15 secs.

Morgan, 35, took the women’s overall title in 1:18.40. She finished ahead 53-year-old Sylvia Bateman in 1:20.11 secs and Jenna Chaplin was third in 1:23.41 secs.

In the relay, “Les Fous” featured Jonathan and Ignacio Hidalgo who finish first overall in 1:08.01 secs.

Jonathan gave the team an early lead on the swim in 12:48 secs and was followed Ignacio who completed the cycling portion in 32:42. Johnathan completed the run in 21.33 secs.

They defeated “Islanders” who featured Eddie Carter (swim), Andrew Stafford (bike), and Peter Knowles (run). They finished second in 1:31.59 secs.

The female relay winners, “Dead Last” featured Gemma Grinling on the swim (14:22 secs), Alex Isobe on the bike (51:22 secs), Angela Fothergi who ran 32:12 secs.

In the mixed relay team event former overall champion Dr. Kelly Kramp joined Mike Guy and Elizabeth Shadd to form team “Tri Not To Kramp” and took first place in the division in a time of 1:10.33 secs. Team Chickenpizza (Zatara Isabelle, Juan Zatarian and Dominique Kull) were second in 1:16.40 secs and Tri Hands (Kori Thompson, Richard Horton and Louise Ready) were third in 1:19.52 secs.

Other male division winners included Ralph Wood in the U19 (1:18.29), Justin Higgs in the 20-29 (1:15.05), Jeremy Knowles in the 30-39 (1:10.18), Cameron Roach in the 40-49 (1:09.36), Jim Avery in the 50-59 (1:22.34), Mario Carey in the 60-69 (1:20.39) and Ulrich Filser in the 70+ in 1:30.49.

Female age group winners included Kami Roach in the U19 (1:37.45), Barbara Kiraly in the 20-29 (1:28.00), Sarah Chemaly in the 30-39 (1:27.11), Katrina Montgomery in the 40-49 (1:26.23), and Debbie Reid in the 50-59 (1:29.05).

This year’s event also featured the Junior Aquathon (200m swim and 1-mile run) and U9 Puppy Aquathon (50m swim and 1km run).

In the Junior Aquathon,, Jordan Cheetham was the winner in the boys U12 while Akiel Smith won the boys U15. Anjaleah Knowles won the girls U12 and Kaitlyn Williams won the girls U15.

In the Puppy Aquathon, Sibby Fynn Potter won the boys race and Taylor Knowles won the girls race.

The Bahamas Alliance for Animal Rights and Kindness hosts the event and its proceeds go towards BAARK!’s spay/neuter and education programmes across The Bahamas.
