Marijuana swoop by police after tip off from public

POLICE seized a quantity of suspected marijuana in a swoop on Thursday evening.

Officers from the flying squad searched the exterior of a residence in Bonaby Alley, off Kemp Road, shortly before 6pm, and found a box containing 68 foil packages in a plastic bag and six additional packages of suspected marijuana.

A police spokesperson said that the officers were acting on information and that the seizure was done thanks to the assistance of the public.

A group of men were in the area at the time of the search and ran away upon seeing police.

No suspect was arrested.

• Two men are being hunted after an armed robbery on Thursday night.

Shortly before 10pm, a man was robbed at his residence in Lumumba Lane in southern Nassau.

Police said he was approached by two men, one armed with a firearm, who robbed him of a black iPhone 7 Plus, before getting into a silver vehicle and speeding away.

• A series of road checks across New Providence by police resulted in 112 fixed penalty notices being issued for various traffic offences including driving uninsured vehicles, and a further 20 for failing to obey traffic signals. In addition, 18 people were arrested for outstanding criminal warrants, deceit of a police officer and shop breaking.
