High school basketballers jostle for spot in the playoffs

THE high school basketball season is winding down in both the Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools and Government Secondary Schools Sports Association as senior boys’ teams jostle for playoff position and final seeding.

Both league leaders in the BAISS, the St John’s College Giants and Temple Christian Suns, notched wins and improved to 7-1 yesterday afternoon.

The Suns blew away the CW Saunders Cougars 83-61 at home on the Suns campus.

Christian Sturrup scored a team high 19 points, Dayton Albury scored 18 and Taleo Bethel added 12. The Cougars got 21 points from Eric Butterfield, while Giovanni Ferguson and Tahj Sands both scored 12.

The Giants also defeated the Jordan Prince William Falcons.

In the GSSSA, the Dame Doris Johnson Mystic Marlins defeated the Anatol Rodgers Timberwolves 79-74 in overtime at the AF Adderley Gymnasium.
