JONQUEL Jones faced foul trouble and double teams all afternoon, but still finished with another double double to lead her Connecticut Sun to the best start in franchise history.

Jones finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds in the Sun’s 81-67 win over the Seattle Storm yesterday at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. She also added a season high six assists and three blocked shots.

The Sun improved to a WNBA leading 8-1 record on the season and now matches the franchise’s best start from the 2005 and 2008 seasons. It marked the sixth straight win for the Sun and sixth double double of the season for Jones as she continues to dominate on both ends of the floor. It was also the 12th straight home win for the Sun at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

On Friday night, Jones finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds in an 85-81 win over the Minnesota Lynx.

Jones is averaging 17.8 points, 12.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game this season, one of the front runners for All-Star and MVP consideration.

All-Star 2019 will follow last year’s format with the starters and reserves being selected without regard for conference affiliation.

The selection of starters will be conducted through a combination of voting by fans (50 percent of the vote), current WNBA players (25 percent) and a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters (25 percent).

The 10 All-Star starters, including the two captains, will be revealed on Thursday, July 11. After the announcement of the starters, the WNBA’s head coaches will select the 12 reserves. Coaches will vote for three guards, five frontcourt players and four players at either position regardless of conference. The reserves will be announced on Monday, July 15.

The captains – the two All-Star starters who receive the most fan votes – will draft their respective rosters by selecting first from the remaining eight players in the pool of starters and then from the pool of 12 reserves.
