• THE UPDATED VERSION OF THIS STORY CAN BE READ HERE

HEALTH Minister Dr Duane Sands said none of the 17 people injured during a shooting incident early this morning at Montel Heights have died.

The incident resulted in 15 people receiving gunshot injuries, according to the Public Hospitals Authority – although earlier police reported that 14 had gunshot wounds. Three others were taken to hospital with non-gunshot injuries.

They were attending a birthday party on Ethel Street when the shooting happened shortly after midnight.

Dr Sands urged the public to follow official updates regarding this mass casualty event.

“No, none have died,” Dr Sands told The Tribune on Sunday. “Listen to the official releases coming out of the Public Hospitals Authority.

“Don’t listen to Susie, Mary, Sally on the street because they don’t know what they talking about.”

The Public Hospitals Authority released a statement today, giving updates on the injured.

“The Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) wishes to confirm that a total of fifteen (15) gunshot victims were assessed in the Accident & Emergency Department, Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) on Sunday June 30th, 2019 commencing at approximately 12:30 a.m. in relation to a reported incident in New Providence,” the statement said.

“Seven (7) of the fifteen (15) persons assessed were admitted to hospital, six (6) of whom were taken to theatre and received surgery. Currently, six (6) of the victims are in stable condition, and one (1) person remains critical.

“Of the total number of persons who presented at hospital, six (6) were discharged, and two (2) left without being seen against medical advice.”

Police are appealing to members of the public who may have information that can assist with this investigation to contact the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991/2, Crime stoppers at 328-TIPS (8477) or the nearest police station.

There wasn't a coup the last time he resigned for the same awarding contracts to myself business.

Its like Juval Aviv said, these guys never learn. They do the same things over and over again. But i suppose if you contribute 10s of millions to a campaign with promise that youll get your money back after we win. If they win, you expect your money back. The problem isn't the people who ask for the money back. The problem is the people who use the country as collateral

Agreed. This is being downplayed big time!
DS focusing on the lack of casualties, what about the fact that nearly 20 people were shot in one night??? According to Love 97 news, one of them was a **10 year old**.

I guess we all know how to feel safer now Sands, just always pray for the gunman to have **lousy aim**!! smh

Do these neighborhoods not know who the thugs, killers and rapists (who live among them) are???

Why does the average Montell resident (or any corner in Nassau) not report them some authority (MP, Church, Police etc)???

What is the cost/benefit analysis of protecting criminals to a typical Nassau corner??????

It's beyond neighbourhoods. They killed 2 guys right under the bridge the other day. The guys killed on Friday were killed out east. And as the money men try to find safer locations drama will follow. Which realtor will refuse money for a lot in old fort bay? Which association will have the right to say, your cousin can't stay in that house in Albany because he's a drug dealer? The govt better take seriously the need to improve the economic circumstances of regular Bahamians with something way better than 250 per week jobs. Crime is paying a higher rate

This is the largest mass shooting in the history of The Bahamas. SEVENTEEN VICTIMS! And even tho there had been no fatalities yet, some victims are still in critical condition. And the possibility of more attacks. And while some bloggers tend to blame the victims, how can one justify such a mass shooting with so much ignorance? Residents in Montell Heights should have just as much rights to attend a party as persons in Lyford Cay or Old Fort Bay. And safely so. Especially if they are not involved in any criminal activity. The victims were mostly women along with four children. And so the focus should be on the shooters. Their mothers or children could also been in the party crowd. But they(the shooters) are probably such cold, blooded animals it would not have mattered. And hopefully they will be caught with rapid speed and get the stiffest penalty.

Remember that these "cold blooded animals" were once inside their mother's womb just like the one in that pregnant woman. We need to figure how do "cute little babies" turn into "cold blooded animals".

Of course, if put in fox hill, they will get the STIFFEST penalty. That is also a part of the problem. It is not good to have a criminal factory operating on your island, training and producing criminals faster than a broken condom.

I will no longer listen to Susie, Mary, Sally on the street because they don’t know what they talking about.
However, Juan, AJ, and Bones have given me the real talk since I've known them.
Dr. Sands, the realities of what transpired are done no injustice by talk on the street.
Nassau is a frickin nightmare, a pox on humanity.
Stay focused on your job.
Rumors will always abound.
These do not change the horrendous quality of life issues in our nation's capital.
