PM set to meet Donald Trump on Friday

PRIME Minister Dr Hubert Minnis and other regional leaders will meet with US President Donald Trump on Friday as the American leader looks to “counter China’s predatory economic practices” in the region among other things.

Potential opportunities for energy investment and security cooperation are also things that will be on the agenda for discussion.

A statement released by the Office of the Press Secretary at the White House last night said the meeting will take place at President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

“President Donald Trump will welcome the leaders of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, the Republic of Haiti, Jamaica, and Saint Lucia on Friday, March 22, 2019, for a meeting at Mar-a-Lago,” the statement posted on the US Embassy in Nassau’s Facebook page noted. “President Trump’s meeting with the Caribbean leaders will reaffirm our strong friendship with and commitment to these countries, and signal the importance of the Caribbean to the hemisphere. The president will discuss his vision for our diverse relationships in the Caribbean and the potential opportunities for energy investment.

“The president looks forward to working with countries in the region to strengthen our security cooperation and counter China’s predatory economic practices. The president will use this meeting as an opportunity to thank these countries for their support for peace and democracy in Venezuela. The United States remains a good friend to the Caribbean and seeks to build on a proud legacy as the region’s partner of choice,” the statement concluded.

Trump will size up Papa Doc Minnis in an instant by just looking at his poor body language and hearing his voice. And when and if Papa Doc Minnis gets the opportunity to try and articulate anything at all to Trump, well, let's just say that will be game over for the Bahamas. The U.S. Dept. of State has already put the Bahamas in the "Unfriendly" bucket. The next two buckets down are "Adversarial" and "Enemy". Let's all pray we don't end up in that last bucket. Just look at what U.S. foreign policy initiatives ending up doing to Venezuela after they were put in the "Enemy" bucket.

The Bahamas enjoys a "preferred" status with the USA ........ If we are not careful with illegal immigration, it will be taken away from us. We weathered the drug era and has the support of the USCG & DEA, but this is a peculiar time when it comes to dealing with the immigrants.

Too late. The Trump administration (Dept. of Homeland Security) already recognizes the Bahamas as a huge gaping hole in Trump's "Wall Initiative" aimed at preventing the flow of illegal aliens into the U.S. along its southern borders. The fact that our successive PLP and FNM governments, including our current Minnis-led FNM government, have always pandered to illegal aliens as a potential voting block has only exacerbated the U.S.'s own illegal alien problems. Believe me when I say this has not gone unnoticed by the Trump administration. We are about to reap what we have sown in spades!

What have we sowed? Immigrants transiting thru our waters trying to get to the USA is our problem? We don't have an immigration issue, the US does, we're just the poor country that gets screwed along the way. We end up spending our money dealing with these people who only want to get to the USA. What we need to do is start a pass thru program. Catch them, ask them where they're going and let em pass. Let the richest country on earth deal with their own immigration issue. We have not sown squat, we are a victim.... The USA should be footing the entire bill for this....

Venezuela was falling under the sphere of Red China's influence in the Western Hemisphere which would have given Red China control of Venezuela's vast oil reserves in exchange for favorable financing of its capital expenditure needs. The U.S. was given little choice but to decimate the Venezuelan economy in order to prevent Red China using Venezuela's oil reserves to buy even more influence in our part of the world. Many of you may recollect Pot Cake Miller a few years ago taking the bait for BPL/BEC to consider having Venezuela, then under the leadership of President Chavez, supply the Bahamas with low cost oil to meet our energy needs. That option was quickly taken off of the table by the U.S. as a result of its policies that were aimed at literally blowing up the Venezuelan economy. And the U.S is currently attempting to install a puppet dictator in Venezuela who would be most sympathetic to U.S. strategic interests in our part of world. Now we see Trump seeking to buy influence in the Caribbean (and thereby hopefully stymy Red China's growing influence) by offering to sell U.S. oil or LNG to all of the island nations. You can bet Shell North America will be well represented at Trump's Florida retreat. What a joke! LMAO

The ignorance and historical revisionism exhibited above is breathtaking in its breadth but I guess not surprising, given our dependence for information on the American mainstream media, which ten years ago gave up all remaining pretense of dealing objectively in actual "news".
The Venezuelan economy has been slowly but surely tanked and utterly destroyed over the past 30 years wholly and solely by the socialist and latterly communist policies of the Chavez and Maduro regimes. They took a fairly wealthy nation wrich in resources - albeit with the characteristic inequality of distribution common to latin america - and imposed programmes and central planning and control the end result of which was predictable and predicted by anyone who has watched politico-economic history for the past century. Until quite recently the U.S. had imposed zero economic sanctions on the Venezuelan economy, instead using little more than individual sanctions and travel restrictions only on the handful of people at the top of that nation's government - a government which had over the past decade or more put itself voluntarily under the virtual control of the communist regime in Cuba. The Venezuelan government, not the U.S. government, is responsible for the melt-down of that econo0my, the breakdown in the distribution of goods and services, and the horrendous inflation that has destroyed its currency.

The Great Country has had it out pretty openly for Venezuela and its resources since around 2002. G.W Bush did not particularly see eye to eye with Chavez either.

Nice try at re-writing history my friend. For decades U.S. oil companies were literally raping Venezuela of its most precious natural resource - oil. The Venezuelan people were most unhappy with the situation and elected Chavez who promised he would do something about it. Chavez attempted to negotiate a fairer deal with the greedy U.S. oil companies whereby the Venezuelan people would receive the benefit of a much more reasonable share of the profits derived from the sale of Venezuela's oil. The greedy U.S. oil companies refused to provide the Venezuelan people with a greater share of the profits from their oil and Chavez eventually ended up having to nationalize the immoveable assets of the U.S. oil companies in Venezuela. From that point on, U.S. foreign policy was directed at destabilizing Venezuela with the aim of eventually putting in place a puppet dictator who would ensure neither Russia nor China moved in to gain control over Venezuela's vast oil reserves. All of this has transpired over more than two decades now.

That wall could come to us if and when our corrupt government grants Red China any of the following that they will soon be seeking to obtain from the Bahamas:

1) Import permits for military grade equipment necessary for highly sophisticated satellite and remote vehicle communications;

2) Access to our deep sea areas for warship and stealth submarine training exercises;

3) Access to our two largest airports for military aircraft engaged in training exercises, including in-the-air refueling exercises; and

4) Residency permits for military and technical personnel required in connection with 1) through 3) above.

It's hard to find words at how shocked and appalled I am. It appears this meeting is to organise some form of anti Venezuela alliance w Trump and his war hawks. Why are we not aligning w our CARICOM family for peace in our region instead of selling our souls and our sovereignty to this unabashed, white supremist, imperialist intent on world domination. As it goes in Venezuela today, the coup against the democratically elected government, so it will be in the Bahamas tomorrow... and the rest of our neighbors in the south. A photo op at Mar-a-Lago, Trump's private country club, and not even a diplomatic meeting in Washington...shame, shame, unspeakable shame. It's a decisive act placing the Bahamas as an actor on the wrong side of history.

1] Isn’t it something how nations such as Cuba, Venezuela, Russia , China, Iran, North Korea, yes and even Syria stands up to the mighty imperialist and single handily call their bluff. And yet, the Bahamas acts like a dog with its ears limp, head down and tail between its leg slowly inching to their master. And isn’t it so amazing how a single brave individual, Ilhan Omar does what this nation and all other nations with powerful armies are so afraid to do,WOW! But then again it takes a nation of moral leaders to do this, the only kind we have are those with personal agendas, you know those with the “me and my family, is all that matters to me” kind of people, that’s all we have around here, small minded. To the imperialist, absolutely nothing worthy can come out this kind of nation but slaves. And slaves we are.

ted4bz says...

2] And entire nation The only friend to imperial America are the Zionist, and this does not mean the Jewish people nor their religious concepts of the meaning of Israel. The Bahamas is no different than the rest the allies of Zionist America, nothing but servants to master. Don’t do as your ordered and you and your nation of people will be sabotaged and severely punished (sanctions which are illegal by the standards of the Geneva Conventions of international-laws). But then again the negro people directing this nation are highly immoral people, they don’t care about laws. The only thing that means anything to them is holding on to power to get filthy rich with impunity. That is as easy to them as being obedient to the Zionist emperors of Imperial America. Ping, Papa, Perry and Phony all showed they have no problem with this. So that’s all he’s going to assure Trump, so that Trump get the neocons off his backside.
