A PAIR of Bahamian prep basketball prospects went head-to-head with their respective programmes in Canadian high school preseason play.

Romad Dean (Crestwood Prep) and Paul Greene (J Addison Prep) are both in their first year with their respective programmes and have had immediate impacts on the floor ahead of the regular season.

Crestwood defeated J Addison on day two of the Early Bird Prep Classic hosted at Father Henry Carr Prep in Canada.

Dean finished with 22 points and 32 rebounds, while Green finished with 25 points in the loss.

Crestwood went on to finish second at the tournament and eventually lost to the hosts in the final - 81-57. They also defeated London Basketball Academy 80-70. J Addison also defeated London Basketball Academy 60-47.

Both Grand Bahama natives made the move to prep schools in Canada this fall. Greene led the St George’s Jaguars to an historic season and captured several top-tiered accolades over the course of the year.

He was named the MVP as he led the Jaguars to an undefeated regular season and local championship title in Grand Bahama.

The Jaguars went on to finish as runners-up in the 2019 Hugh Campbell final but highlighted the year when they became the first two-time winners of the Bahamas National High School Basketball tournament in April.

Greene finished with 22 points and 17 rebounds and was named the MVP of the Jaguars’ 62-57 win over the Tabernacle Baptist Falcons.

Dean, also a former Falcon, followed in the footsteps of another former Falcon Franco Miller Jr when he committed to Crestwood. Miller is currently a redshirt freshman for the Ole Miss Rebels. Dean had an active summer which featured an historic run as a member of the junior national team and an invitation to the Basketball Without Borders camp.

Dean came up with his most timely offensive rebound and score to lift The Bahamas to a bronze medal at the FIBA Centrobasket Under-17 Championship for Men.

He rebounded a missed layup and followed with a dunk that gave the Bahamas an 85-83 win over the Dominican Republic.

Dean finished with a double-double - 18 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

For the tournament, Dean averaged a double-double with 14.2 points and 11.4 rebounds per game.

With the win, the Bahamas will also advance to the 2020 FIBA Under-18 Tournament of the Americas.

The top four teams at the Tournament of the Americas will advance to the subsequent Under-19 Basketball World Cup.

Dean was also selected to represent the Bahamas at the 10th Basketball Without Borders camp.

The big event is hosted by the National Basketball Association (NBA), the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the Colombian Basketball Federation (FCB) in Medellin, Colombia.
