Baha Mar will close until further notice starting March 25 at 3pm, with a temporary layoff of all nonessential staff.
In a letter to employees, Baha Mar president Graeme Davis said the company’s full-time associates will receive the equivalent of 40 percent of their base pay as of March 26 for up to 90 days.
Baha Mar will continue to pay the premiums necessary to maintain their employees’ health insurance coverage.
Mr Davis said they are working to complete B80 forms for each associate to be sent directly to NIB, and asked staff to contact NIB for more information.
Mr Davis added “The weeks ahead are sure to be trying, but we look forward with hope and anticipation to a time when we will welcome our guests and associates back to our property for the spectacular experiences we are known for around the world.”

Tal, you make great sense when you drop all the jargon and gobbledygook and just write clear, clean sentences. Keep it up, bro!

If Tal spoke clear clean sentences you might decipher who he/she is. Its much more fun to read all the comments telling him to speak clearly along with his typical nonplussed humorous equaly undecipherable response.

This is just the beginning. It will start with hotels, then other businesses will follow suit. If the government mandates that "non-essential" businesses close for a period of time, how will they pay their staff?

Other countries that did these things came up with stimulus packages to protect workers and small businesses. So far no virus deaths have been reported and the government seems determined to shut down the economy completely and escalate crime. SMH

I guess his view from Lyford Cay, prevents Minnis from seeing the struggles of the average everyday Bahamian.
Your response should match the impact of the virus. With no deaths reported, IMHO, Minnis is going too far.
I pray the economy does not collapse completely, but under Minnis' leadership we are heading that way. It seems many people can't see it or just refuse to.

May be the centralized powers can now diversify the economy away from big box tourism, oil exploration, oil storage and big diesel fossil fuel energy as the country will be fully indebted to the IMF.
Can we try solar energy, agriculture, poultry, light manufacturing, family island development, micro guest cottages for tourism?
So when Dorian II comes along at least we are a little more self sufficient?

from msnbc.com
*At Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, New Jersey, most of the hospitalized coronavirus patients are younger than 65.*
*"We're seeing younger patients, one a 29-year-old, some in their 40s, 50s. " Dr. Adam Jarrett, the center's chief medical officer, told NBC News on Monday, adding he was surprised patients' ages skewed younger than he'd expected.*
*All but one had underlying health conditions, such as heart or lung disease, diabetes and obesity.*
*"**I am concerned about people who are obese**," Jarrett said. "I wonder about lung capacity." COVID-19, the illness that results from infection from the coronavirus,*

What will happen to all the meats and other food products, and soaps, shampoos, cleansers, etc., in various storage facilities located on this mammoth property? Will Fook Enterprises, the owners of Baha Mar, be arranging for these now scarce items to be distributed to the many Red Chinese nationals living on New Providence? Perhaps Sandy Sands knows what will be done with Baha Mar's large inventory of these items.

Excellent point Mudda...There is the process of mothballing the hotel and turning off equipment, saving wear and tear saving electricity. Empty stockpiles that will spoil, shelf life, wrappers packaged items aged likely changed future productions etc. Mothball most or all hotel and dispense spoilable items, shelf life compromised, items immediately critical use to employees to better survive. Etcetc.
