A CONCERNED citizen rescued a man from his car after he drove off Montagu Ramp into waters below in an attempted suicide, police said.
The startling scene took place shortly after 3pm Friday.
According to police, officers received a report of an attempted suicide at Montagu Beach. When officers arrived, they were told that a man in a white Nissan Skyline had driven off the Montagu Beach ramp and into the water.
A concerned citizen jumped into the water and rescued the man from his car, police said.
Cell phone footage taken of the incident shows a white car partially submerged in the ocean as onlookers watch. Three people are seen entering the water, heading towards the car as onlookers shouted for the victim to come out of the vehicle.
One of the concerned citizens is seen entering the car through a back door as the men attempt to help the victim get out of the vehicle.
The man was conscious and coherent when he was brought out of the water, police said.
The victim was later taken to hospital by Emergency Medical Services.
Police are investigating the incident.

Obviously has some issues, but if he was serious about offing himself he should have picked a spot where the water is deeper than waist deep.

I wondered how deep that water was. I forget the name of the psychologist, works at Sandilands(?), but he was just in 104.5 this week talking about suicide attempts. He said when a man talks about suicide take it very seriously, they're going to harm themselves. He said a woman is more likely to do superficial harm. But in any event both need help. This is sad story because it's not too difficult to imagine how a life coukd be falling apart at this time and there's not enough resources being put firward to help everybody.
We will be in serious trouble if a vaccine isn't produced shortly. There's no way tourism jumpstarts without it. The risks are just too great. Once a hotel gets a reputation for a COVID spread for example, noone will book it.
We are a house of cards with tourism at the bottom layer. We're all at risk for the quandary this man found himself in. We'll crumble a layer at a time but eventually we'll crumble
unless... we get some really good leadership. like Joseph.

... a vaccine is iffy for many, but at the rate infections are spreading (confirmed cases only reveal a small percentage of those infected since the vast majority are asymptomatic) we will soon achieve herd immunity. Infections will peak and then steadily decline. At the end of it we will have many deaths but the combination of ignorance from those in charge and apathy from a large segment of the population makes me wonder who really cares!

We are nowhere near herd immunity man. We'd need 60 to 70% infected. Nobody on earth is near herd immunity. Please stop getting your "facts" from facebook... Sheesh..

... thanks Dr. Know It All, now how do you prove what you said objectively based on the underreporting of positive cases and patchy testing?

Did you take math in school? 60 to 70% needed. Where you graduate? trump university hey? You think we have 250,000 asymptomatic walking round????

The vast majority of infected are not asymptomatic. Studies range from 20-40% asymptomatic infected. Stop spreading your nonsense.
