Island-wide outage after BPL engine disruption

BAHAMAS Power and Light experienced major engine disruption that caused an island-wide outage in New Providence on Friday.

The outage happened at 1.16pm and electricity was restored after 4pm, BPL said.

“Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd reported that all customers affected by the island-wide outage that occurred at 1.16pm had their power restored by shortly after 4pm,” the company said in a statement shortly after 5pm.

“At 1.16pm, our system experienced a problem that caused the six engines online at Station A to come offline all at once. The mitigation systems were unable to deal with the sudden, unexpected loss of half the generation on the grid, which led to an island-wide outage."

Power out on Mangrove Cay. Will be till tomorrow they say. And, no water on the island, either. If we did more planning, along with praying , we may be allowed to enter this century. Oh yeah, the phones have been up and down all day, too. That's called a trifecta, i think.

Six engines went down at once? Does anybody think it was just a coincidence this happened at lunch time? Only in the Bahamas ...

Friday is a favorite day for power failures. This is done to help the private sector vendors, who pay the high bills, have profitable sales on pay day and probably also so employees can take extended lunch hours.

This is amazing. BEC just cannot do its job. New engines but problems persist. And you people pay huge bills for their "service". I'd be sooo pissed.

Best thing I ever did was move off that dump of an island...

Ridiculous crime levels.
Dirty,
Ridiculous traffic,
Horrible service in every single industry,
Crowded.

What exactly is the benefit to living on that sh-thole of an island again?

Wow...

Uh ... gosh, tell us what you *really* think. You forgot to mention that, on the upside, everything is ungodly expensive.

Sat in a long line at road traffic for three hours yesterday only to have them put one person at the front of the line to say they are closed until Monday because of the rain! After almost 50 years of independence we cannot inspect and license cars when it rains. Only to leave there and have the power go out upon arriving home. Still can't figure out why I love this country!

"major engine disruption"... I smell a new "engine restoration tax" coming to the BEC bill in the near future.

Ingratitude is worst than voodoo. Notwithstanding the fact that BEC is an entirely different story, I will not accept the the ungrateful comments about our country. Why is it that so many people are literally dying to come here.
