Murray’s ‘late game heroics snaps Owls’ losing streak

BYRON Murray’s late game heroics snapped his Florida Atlantic Owls’ recent losing streak and simultaneously placed him atop the Conference USA leaderboard in home runs.

In a scoreless game through eight innings, Murray’s two run home run led the Owls to a 4-0 win over the Old Dominion Monarchs in the finale of their four game series.

FAU headed into the game with seven consecutive losses which included a four game sweep at the hands of Charlotte and three straight losses to Old Dominion before Murray helped turn things around in the finale.

It was Murray’s 10th home run of the season and extended his “reached-base” streak to 15 straight. He now leads Conference USA in home runs and is near the top of the leaderboard in several categories. His 38 RBI are ranked third, 79 total bases and .658 slugging percentage are all ranked third in their respective categories.

Through 28 games this season, all starts, the 6’ 205 pound infielder is hitting .325 with a .435 OBP, 1.093 OPS and 31 runs.

The Owls improved to 16-16, (5-7 in C-USA). It also ended the Monarchs’ 10 game winning streak for (24-6, 10-2 C-USA).

FAU opens a four game set at home against the UAB Blazers tomorrow night on the road in Birmingham, Alabama.
