A 43-year-old man who denied assaulting a police officer was yesterday granted $2,000 bail ahead of his trial.

Valencio Darling appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt after he was accused of resisting arrest and assaulting an on-duty officer on January 19.

During the hearing, the accused, who appeared in court on crutches, denied both allegations. His attorney, Christina Galanos, also told the magistrate that her client had “suffered injuries while being apprehended” by the officer accusing him of assault.

As a result, Magistrate Ferguson-Pratt said she would make a note of the complaint and adjourned the matter to May 18 for trial.

Darling was granted $2,000 bail until that time.
