A SOCIAL media influencer who was caught trying to travel to Miami with marijuana-infused gummy bears was yesterday fined $300.

Police arrested Chelsea Lovelace, 31, after they found the candies, which contained 25 grams of Indian hemp, on her at Lynden Pindling International Airport on January 25.

She pleaded guilty to one count of possession during a hearing before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt.

The court was told that around 6.25am that day, Lovelace was approached by the chief border protection officer at LPIA who told her he suspected that she was in possession of drugs. The prosecution said when he searched the Tampa resident, he found the marijuana gummies. Lovelace was subsequently arrested and taken to the Drug Enforcement Unit. In an interview with police there, she declined to comment.

Yesterday, Lovelace told the magistrate she was an influencer who worked in Los Angeles. She claimed she and her girlfriend decided to visit the country for a day and added the marijuana gummies she was found with came in a goodie bag she got from one of her modelling assignments.

After listening to Lovelace’s explanation, Magistrate Ferguson-Pratt accepted her guilty plea and fined her $300 or six weeks in prison.
