McFall commits to Slippery Rock

FRESH off his Bahamas senior men’s national team debut, Jonathan McFall announced his transfer destination to continue his collegiate career.

McFall committed to the Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania for the upcoming fall campaign.

SRU competes in NCAA Division II and is a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

In 2019, they finished 15-14 and lost in the opening round of the PSAC tournament while the 2020-21 season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following an accolade-filled 2021 campaign, McFall entered the NCAA transfer portal after his lone season with the Chowan University Hawks. McFall was named the Conference Carolinas (CC) Defensive Player of the Year, a Conference Carolinas Second Team selection, and a Conference Carolinas All-Tournament selection.

The Hawks’ season ended in the Semifinals of the CC Tournament. Over the course of the tournament, he averaged 17.5 points while shooting 55 percent from the field. He also averaged eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and 1.5 steals per game.

During the regular season, the 6’5” junior guard led the Hawks in nearly every statistical category - scoring, rebounds, steals, blocks, and free throw shooting.

He averaged 17.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game. He also shot 53 percent from the field and 87 percent from the free throw line.

On February 16, McFall scored a season high 32 points and finished with two double doubles - 22 points and a season high 14 rebounds against King and 16 points, 11 rebounds against Southern Wesleyan. He had 15 points and a season high six assists against Mount Olive.

McFall transferred to Chowan after a two year stint with Catawba Valley Community College Red Hawks.

He played in 27 games as a freshman for the Red Hawks, and averaged 6.4 points per game.

In his sophomore season, those numbers increased across the board to 17.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and two assists per game.

Locally, McFall was a member of the St. Augustine’s Big Red Machine before he transition to Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School in Georgia where he was a two sport star in basketball and baseball. As a senior, he averaged 17 points, five rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.8 assists per game.

McFall recently made his senior men’s national team debut earlier this month as the programme finished the FIBA World Cup 2023 Americas Pre-Qualifiers for Group A with an undefeated record and advanced to the next round in November.

The Bahamas finished 3-0 with wins over Cuba, Costa Rica and El Salvador. McFall averaged 2.7 points per game and finished with six points, two rebounds and two steals in a tournament high 14 minutes against Costa Rica.
