EDITOR, The Tribune.
I just went to Quakoo Street Police station to put in for a character reference. I was shocked and annoyed to hear that all character references must be picked up from Thompson Boulevard due to COVID.
This makes no sense. Due to COVID steps should be taken to avoid the gathering of large numbers of people. This is what is happening at Thompson Boulevard because the whole island must go there to pick up character references.
It would make more sense if both locations remained operational so that long lines could be avoided. In fact, a third location should be opened for this very reason. It seems as if those who make decisions for these agencies do not care about the Bahamian people.
In 2021 I have to go on a long line to Cash and go to pay for a character reference and then go on a long line at another location to pick it up? This is ridiculous!
Do not tell me anything about having a credit card because many Bahamians do not have one or do not want one. It is wrong for the government who loves to go after the masses at election time to force the same people to be inconvenienced because they do not have a credit card or in some cases a smart phone.
The government needs to have more than one location for character references to be requested and collected. If it is the people’s time, the people’s time should be respected and not taken for granted.
Those in government can get things quickly for themselves and their friends and family members. What about the man on the street? This should be addressed immediately.

Same thing when we had restricted days and hours to go to the food store. They will never learn from their mistakes.
Government must simplify procedures, not make them more complicated.
And we should be able to pay in cash.
