‘Jazz’ back in starting lineup

Jasrado “Jazz” Chisholm completed his stint on the injured list, a brief rehab assignment, and was back in the starting lineup for the Miami Marlins yesterday afternoon.

Chisholm got the start at shortstop, hit leadoff and finished 2-5 with a run and a stolen base in the Marlins’ 3-2 win over the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California.

Chisholm is now tied for second in the MLB in steals with eight and has yet to be caught stealing.

It marked the third time this season Chisholm got the start at shortstop.

In the fifth inning, Pablo López reached base on an error to lead off and Chisholm followed with a single to put runners in scoring position. Adam Duvall’s three-run home run was the go-ahead score for the Marlins as they improved to 18-22.

Chisholm officially returned after rehabbing from a left hamstring strain that had put him on the shelf since April 28.

During his rehab stint with Triple-A Jacksonville, Chisholm hit .444, slugged .500 with an .889 OPS, a home run and four RBIs in three games and nine at-bats.

In 22 games this season, Chisholm is hitting .297 with a .917 OPS, slugging .551 with 22 hits, 40 total bases, 12 runs scored, four doubles, one triple, four home runs, seven RBI, and a National League leading eight stolen bases. His 1.1 fWAR still leads all National League second basemen and ranks third in the major leagues. Marlins face Phillies tonight.
